During National Library Week, students and teachers dressed as story book characters at Pink Hill Elementary School Some fourth and fifth grade students dressed as a character in a book when thUy read to primary children. Mr. Swinson, the principal, read to each grade sometime during the week. Students made bookmarks that were laminated to be more durable. DEAR Week generates school interest in reading and the media center. DEAR Week was announced and posters were made prior to this week so students and teachers could begin to figure out what DEAR means. During this preceding week it was announced that DEAR stands for: "Dropeverything and read." At a specified time each day during the week, everybody (including teachers and entire staff) drops everything and reads for te4i minutes, books, periodicals, etc. from the library/media center. Riders and walkers included Tracy Salter. Shane Arnette, Jamie Canipe, Angie Canipe and Rachel Kennedy. First place went to Rachel Kennedy who collected $402.75. 2nd place to Tracy Salter. May 14 at S3 per plate, regulai. and S3.50 for combinations. Lee Lon had surgery in January at which time he received a kidney transplant from his father. It was not compatible and his body rejected it. The kidney was removed, and as a result, two weeks ago he received a kidney from his mother. At the present time, he is a patient at Duke Medical Center where he is suffering problems with the current operation. Medical bills are mounting.
