He is an honest to-goodness mountaineer and seeks to show through his artistic talents the ways that mountain people are important to North Carolina's heritage. The stories he tells in the simple and plain and concies way the mountaineers tell stories have been handed down for Frank Proffitt generations. He is a musi cian too; he plays the dulcimer and the "banjer." as he calls it. and also the guitar, the way mountaineers play them. And, the tunes he plays are mountain tunes. The Arts Council has scheduled Proffitt in seven of the schools and at several community functions. Visitors are welcome at any - of the performances. The school schedule is: Wed..
