Week May 8-14
According to Julie Lane,
activities director, Guardian
Care Nursing Home of
Kenan^ville will join with
thousands of nursing homes
across the country in cele
brating National Nursing
Home Week May 4-14.
"Memories were made to
be Shared"_ is the 1983
theme. It is'selected as a
reminder to everyone in the
community that nursing
home residents want to share
their many experiences with
family and neighbors during
that week. Guardian Care
will provide many opportu
nities for this sharing as well
as special activities to honor
the residents and staff.
DCAC Presents
Mountain Musician
This week is a big one for
the Duplin County Arts >
Council and for the children <
in seven of our schools, for
this is the week when Frank |
Proffitt will visit the schools. |
Proffitt is a mountain ]
musician. He is an honest
to-goodness mountaineer
and seeks to show through
his artistic talents the ways
that mountain people are
important to North
Carolina's heritage. The
stories he tells in the simple
and plain and concies way
the mountaineers tell stories
have been handed down for
Frank Proffitt
generations. He is a musi
cian too; he plays the
dulcimer and the "banjer."
as he calls it. and also the
guitar, the way mountaineers
play them. And, the tunes he
plays are mountain tunes.
The Arts Council has
scheduled Proffitt in seven of
the schools and at several
community functions.
Visitors are welcome at any -
of the performances. The
