The poster won at the
county and regional levels
before being submitted as
one of 45 state contest en
tries in the division. Smith

The Warsaw American'
Legion Post No. 127 invites
everyone to attend Memorial
Day services to be held on
Monday. May 30 at Pinecrest
Cemetery at 11 a.m. The
guest speaker is the Rever
end Dr. Eugene B. D^vis.
Chaplain Davis. U.S. Navv
Retired, was born and reared
in Mount Olive. He gradu
ated from Davidson College
with a BA degree and from
Union Theology Seminary in
Richmond. Va., with a
Master of Divinity degree.
Ordained by Wilmington
Presbytery as pastor of the
Kenansville and Hallsville
Presbyterian churches in
1958, Davis served there
until July of 1959 when he
entered the Navy chaplaincy
on active duty as a lieu
tenant, junior grade.
Subsequent assignments
found Davis serving
numerous tours of duty with
the Marine Corps, as, a sea
going chaplain aboard
cruisers and destroyers and
on foreign assignments in
Okinawa and Vietnam. He
earned the MS in education
and PhD by successfully
completing off-duty studies
with Pepperdine University
and California Graduate
andSchool of Theology, Glen
dale, during his naval career.
Commander O^vts retired
on 31 January 1983 after
23'/i years' active duty. His
military decorations include:
the Lesion of Merit with
Combat "V"; two Navy
Commendations: the Combat
Action Ribbon; and
numerous U.S. and foreign
unit citations.

supply pastor for the Bow
dens Presbyferian Church.
He resides in Jacksonville
with his wife and tnree
