Riddick-Miller Wed In Afternoon Nuptials w Miss Deirdre Miller and Andrew Riddick were united in marriage on Saturday June 4, 1983 at 2 o'clock in the afternoon in the First Baptist Church Kenansville. The Rv. C.W. Wright offici ated at the double ring ceremony. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert ?James Miller of Rt. 1 Mag nolia, N.C. Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Riddick of Plain field, N.J. are the parents of the groom. A program of wedding music was presented by Mr. Bruce McCallop, organist. Miss Betty Jean Whitfield of Rt. 1 Magnolia and Mr. Joel Massey of Rocky Point, N.C. soloists. Given in marriage by her ^father, the bride wore a ^formal length gown of white organza over taffetta de signed with a Victorian neck line encircled with scalloped venice lace, a fitted bodice with a empire waistline ac cented with pearls and long lace trimmed illusion sleeves with snapped close lace cuffs. The full skirt which flowed into a chapel train ^was highlighted with lace ^panels a"d an inset of ac cordian pleated organza down the front, a deep full flounce trimmed with rows of venice lace edged the hem line. She wore a double tieftd fingertip veil of illu sion edged in venice lace held in place by a Juliet cap overlaid in floral silk venice lace. The bride wore a single strand of pearls and carried a ?bouquet of fashioned Victor ian nosegay of delicate pink carnations, white daisies, pompons interspersed with gypsophelia and tied with white lace picot satin ribbon. Miss Sylvia Graham of Fayetteville, friend of the bride, was maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Miss Gloria Moore of Kinston, friend of the bride, Miss ~ Mardicia Stalling of Chin W quapin, friend of the bride, Miss Denise Miller of Raleigh and Miss Anissa Jones of Philadelphia both cousins of the bride. Miss Laurita McGowan of Kenans ville, Junior bridesmain, cousin of the bride. Flower girls were Carlena Sheme Mills of Kinston and Natalie Martina Mills of Durham both cousins of the bride. 9 Mr. Bryan Creig of Wash ington, D.C. Friend of the groom served as best man. Ushers were Mr. Theodore Riddick III of Plainfield. N.J. brother of the groom, Mr. James Rodney Miller of Atlanta. Ga. brother of the bride, Mr. Allen M. Dixon of Rose Hill and Mrs. Ecolia T. Monk of VA. both friends of the couple presided at the re gister. Mrs. Helen McGowan of Kenansville, aunt of the bride, directed the wedding. The groom who is also a senior at North Carolina Central Uni versity has signed on as a rookie with the New York Giants Football Team, N.Y. Reception Immediately following the ceremony the bride's parents entertained at a reception in the church fellowship hall. Guests were greeted by Mrs. Ralph Hall. Reception table was decorated by Mrs. Mary B. Middleton, cousin of the bride. Refreshments were prepared by Jackson's Deli, Mrs. Louise Smith, cousin of the bride, and Mrs. Eunice McGowan of Kenansville. Refreshments served were arranged by Mrs. Annette Miller, Mrs. Janette Mathis, Mrs. Mable Middleton all cousins of the bride. Mrs. Shirley Mills aunt of the bride poured the punch, Mrs. Minnie Jones, aunt of the bride served cake also assisting was Diana Tweedy, sister of the groom and Mrs. Doreen Manley cousin of the bride. Mrs. Annie Kornegay, aunt of the bride served as hostess at large. Mrs. Nanie M. Barfield, Mrs. Shirley S. Mills both aunts of the bride and Mrs. Jean Rivers sister of the groom were in charge of gifts. Fennell, friend of the bride. Other Entertainments On Saturday May 7, 1983 the bride-elect was honored with a miscellaneous shower in the home of Mr. and Mrs. William P. Fennell also given by the Fennells of Kenans ville. A variety of nice and useful gifts were received. Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Riddick parents of the pros pective bridegroom, were hosts for a dinner on Friday June 3. 1983 at the General Store Restaurant in Kenans ville. Relatives and members of the wedding party at tended. The couple chose this time to present gifts to their attendants. On the morning of June 4, 1983 a wedding breakfast was given by Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Southerland, grand parents of the bride. At 6:00 p.m. after the wedding a cookout was given by Mr. and Mrs. Robert Miller and the Miller family for families to become more acquainted. Assisting was Mr. Daniel Pearsall cousin of the bride, Mrs. Pauline Kenan, cousin of the bride and owner of the B & K Restaurant in Kenansville. MRS. JOHN ROBERT "BOBBY' BRISCOE the former Melissa Suzanne Olsen who was married on June 11, 1983 at Park Road Moravian Church in Charlotte, N.C. Mrs. Briscoe is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ottery Olsen of Pensacola, Florida. Mr. Briscoe is the son of Mr. and Mrs. J.R. Briscoe of Charlotte, N.C. and the grandson fo Mrs. Robert Jones of Kenansville and the late Bob Grady. The bride attended Pensacola Jr. College and is planning to attend UNC-C this coming year. She is presently employed at Corey Sales Co. in Charlotte. The groom also attended Pensacola Jr. College and is now manager of Mr. Minit of America at Eastland Mall in Charlotte. The couple left after the wedding for a trip the the Outer Banks, The Lost Colony and other points of interest on Ocracoke Island. They will make their home in Charlotte, N.C. after their triD. Sammy Wilson, pictured above will begin a discipline and respect for others karate class with an emphasis on self-defense. The classes begin June 28th at the Tomp son Gymnasium in Warsaw. Karate instruction is spon sored by the Warsaw Recrea tion Department. Classe*" will meet twice a week for two hours each session be ginning nightly at 8 p.m. I Men and women are eligible to enroll, but participants must be at least 10 years of age. Pre-registration is re quired by June 27 and fees are $30 a month for Warsaw residents and $35 for non residents. Loose fitting cloth ing is required to start the class, for more information or to pre-register call the Parks and Recreation office at 293-7182. BIRTH ANNOUNCEMENT Mr. and Mrs. Jeffrey Owen Taylor of Albertson announce the birth of a son, Jeffrey Michael, on May 23 at Lenoir Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Taylor is the former Brenda Carol Moore of La Grange. The maternal grand parents are Mrs. Mildred Louise Moore of La Grange and Mr. William Moore of Blairsville, Pennsylvania. The paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Carl Jar man Taylor of Deep Run. Kenansville News Presbyterian Women Circle #1 of the Women of Grove Presbyterian Church met at 4 o'clock on Monday afternoon, June 13, 1983 with Mrs. Amos Chestnutt. Miss Annie Catherine Rhodes presided over the meeting and made the open ing prayer. The Bible Study from Colossians 4:2-4 was moderated by Mrs. J.B. Stroud. She was assisted by Mesdames A.T. Outlaw and Mrs. N B. Boney, also Mrs. Chestnutt and Miss Rhodes. Their topic was "Prayerful, Faithful, Salty Peacemak ers". The closing prayer was made by Mrs. Ralph Barwick after which the hostess as sisted by Mrs. Thomas Chestnutt and Mrs. Tommy Chestnutt served refresh ments. Circle #2 met at 8 o'clock on Monday night with Mrs. David Byrd. The meeting was presided over by Mrs. Lloyd Stevens who also con ducted the opening Devo tional and moderated the Bible Study from the Book of Colossians. A social hour followed the business session during which time Mrs. Byrd assisted by Mrs. Roy Houston and Mrs. J.J. Wells served refreshments. United Methodist Women The Afternoon Circle of the United Methodist Women did not hold a regu lar meeting Monday June 13, but the Evening Circle held its annual cookout at the Country Club with Mrs. Ed Rector as official hostess. It was also Family night. Mrs. Rector welcomed the 17 pre-__ sent as they arrived. Mrs. Dixon Hall returned Thanks. After enjoying their supper, Mrs. Rector presented a lovely handmade lamp shade to Mrs. Worth Pearce as a parting gift from the Evening Circle. Baptist Women The Ella Cooper Circle of the Women of the local Baptist Church was post poned due to conflicts but the Cora Stokes Circle met at 2 o'clock at Whaleys Rest Home to serve refreshments to the residents. The commit tee serving was composed of Virginia Penney, Doris English, nannie Brinson and Cleora Hudson. Eastern Star Joyce Williams, presided over the regular bi-monthly meeting of Kenansville Chapter #215 when it met last Tuesday night at 8 p.m. She was assisted by J.B. Stroud since the Worthy Matron and Worthy Patron were both out of town. After the Ritualistic opening and business session Joyce and Sally Tvndall reported that they, along with Kermiy and Ruby Newton, registered at the Grand Chapter Meeting which began on Monday and the four of them attended the special get together supper meeting of those present representing the eighth dis trict. Personals Miss Annie C. Rhodes has returned from N. Hollywood Florida after a visit there with her brother Allen Rhodes and family. Mrs. Gordon Kornegay and Mrs. N.B. Boney made a i business trip to Wilmington on Thursday. Mrs. John Lowery and daughter, Beth of Goldsboro spent last Sunday here with Mrs. Louise W. Mithcell and attended the Sourtherland Reunion. Joan Hughes of Holly wood. Fla., Edith Huggins and Winona Hayden of Wilmington visited Eva Hughes last Wednesday. Mesdames Louise Bullock of Mt. Olive. Lucille Price of Goldsboro and Essie Roberts of San Diego, Calif, spent last Friday here with Mrs. Gordon Kornegay. Dr. Tom Mullis and son, John of Radford, Va. visited the Rev. and Mrs. Troy D. Mullis several days last week and they were joined by the Tony Capilarrys of Green ville. Liberty Hall Bridge Club Mrs. Louise W. Mithcell was hostess for the Liberty Hall Bridge Club on Wednes day night at 7:30 with Mesdames Joyce W. Bell. Ruth P. Jones and Martha Sitterson as additional guests. Between program sessions the hostess assisted by Ruth Wells served refreshments. Club high score prize was won by Eloise Ryder and by Ruth Jones for the visiting players. Doses Doz.
