Vows Spoken
Patricia Grady and
Kenneth Russell Brown were
united in marriage at four
o'clock in the afternoon on
Sunday, June 16, 1983, at
Dobson Chapel Baptist
Church. The Rev. James W.
Johnson officiated at the
double-ring ceremony.
The bride is the daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Norman
(Jack) Grady of Kenansville.
The bridegroom is the son of
Mr. and Mrs. Russell P.
Brown of Roue 2, Rose Hill.
A program of traditional
wedding music was
presented by Mrs. Janet
Register, organist, of Route
2, Rose Hill. Vocalists were
Sharon Brown of Washing
ton, D.C. and Johnny Brown
of Greensboro, sister and
brother of the bridegroom.
They sang "Father Al
mighty," "You and I," and
"Trie Wedding Prayer."
I he couple spoke tneir
nuptial vows at the church
altar adorned with a single
stately arrangement of mixed
summer flowers of rose,
pink, white and burgundy.
Candelabras accented with
green palms flanked the
center arrangement.
Escorted to the altar by her
father, the 1 ride wore a floor
length gown of white chiffon
over silk taffeta with a fitted
bodice. The Queen Anne
neckline was outlined with
alencon floral lace and seed
pearls which extended to the
waist. The gown featured
bishop sleeves trimmed in
matching lace. The full skirt
fashioned with a scalloped
Venise lace hem fell into a
chapel-length train. Her
three-tiered veil was at
tached to a Camelot cap
covered in lace and wide lace
surrounded each layer of
tulle. For her bridal bouquet,
the bride chose a drop cas
cade of silk pink and bur
gundy roses, miniature pink
and white carnations and
babies'-breath. She followed
tradition by wearing some
thing old, something new,
something borrowed and
something blue.
Mrs. Dianne G. Savage of
Keriinsville was her sister's
matron of honor. She wore a
formal length dress in suede
rose which featured a high
stand-up collar with match
ing lace overlay. She carried
a nosegay of pink, white and
burgundy silk roses, carna
tions and babies'-breath. In
her hair she wore a pink silk
rose with babies'-breath.
Bridesmaids were Sally
Heath, Lori Nethercutt and
Jennifer Sutton, all of
Kenansville. Their dresses
were of white summer cotton
with floral suede rose print.
Their hair adornment and
nosegays were identical to
that of the matron of honor.
The bridegroom wore a
white tuxedo and a pink rose
boutonniere.
The father of the grom was
his best man. Groomsmen
were Earl and Jeffrey Grady
of Kenansville, brothers of
the bride, and Otis Brown of
Magnolia cousin of the
groom. The groom's brother
Stephen presented the
wedding bulletins. All the
groomsmen wore silver-gray
tuxedoes and pink carnation
boutonnieres.
The mother of the bride
wore a formal gown of blue
polyester crepe with a chiffon
capelet and accordian-pleat
ed skirt. She wore a corsage
of white summer flowers.
Mrs. Russell Brown, mother
of the groom, wore a formal
gown of mauve quina with
chiffon overlay. She also
wore a corsage of white
summer flowers.
Mr. and Mrs. Murphy
Simpson of Beulaville,
maternal grandparents of the
groom, were among the
wedding party.
Debra Brown of Raleigh,
sister of the groom, presided
at the bridal register. The
wedding was directed by
Mrs. Elna Grey Bostic of
Route 1, Magnolia.
After a wedding trip to
Myrtle Beach, S.C., the
couple will reside at Route 2,
Rose Hill.
Reception
Immediately following the
ceremony, the bride's pa
rents hosted the wedding
reception in the church fel
lowship hall. After the bride
and groom cut the tradi
tional first piece of wedding
cake, they toasted each
other. The four-tiered wed
ding cake was cut and served
by Mrs. Betty Riner of
Autryville. Punch was served
by Miss Beverly Cavenaugh
of Magnolia. The wedding
reception was directed by
Mrs. Caffie Williams of
Kenansville. At the entrance
to the fellowship hall was a
portrait of the bride.
Rehearsal Dinner
The couple was honored
with a rehearsal dinner given
by the brothers and sisters of
the groom's father Saturday
at the Rose Hill Restaurant.
The wedding party and im
mediate family members
were among the guests.
Bridal Brunch
On June 25 at eleven
o'clock, Sharon and Debra
Brown, sisters of the groom,
entertained the bride-elect
and her attendants with a
bridal brunch at their
mother's home at Route 2.

Diane Savage, sister of the
bride, and Caffie Williams,

BLANTON-JOHNSON ENGAGEMENT . Mr. and Mrs.
John A. Johnson of Warsaw announce the engagement of
their daughter, Mary Best Johnson of Long Beach, to Tony
Marion Blanton of Wilmington, son of Mrs. Lindy
Winstead of Fayetteville and the late Marion Aaron
Blanton. The wedding is planned for July 30.

Megon Olivia Maready
and Louis Quinn Howard
were married Sunday, June
19, at three o'clock in the
afternoon. The double-ring
ceremony was performed by
Dr. L. Mack Thompson in the
Warsaw Baptist Church..
The bride is the daughter
of Ms. Olivia Halso Maready
of Warsaw and Mr. Glenn
Maready of Carolina Beach.
The bridegroom is the son of
Mr. Bobby Howard of
Kenansville and the late
Patsy Quinn Howard.
A program of special
musie was performed by Jim
Aycock of Fremont. The ser
vice began as the acolytes,
Matthew and Jonathan
Halso, cousins of the bride,
lighted the trinity candles at
the church altar. Anita
Maready and Mrs. Ruth
Howard, soloists, performed
"The Wedding Song,"
"Whither Thou Goest," and
"The Lord's Prayer."

boro. From there, the bride
and groom walked together
to stand before the church
altar.
The bride wore a formal
gown of ivory English net
and silkened organza over
peau de soie. The gown
featured a high neckline of
lace with front and back
sheer yokes of English net
fashioned with silk Venise
and Shiffli laces accented
with scattered wedding
pearls to enhance the fitted
bodice of taffeta. Shiffli lace,
silk Venise lace and wedding
pearls adorned the long
fitted sleeves of net closing
with traditional bridal
buttons. The back of the
bodice featured matching
buttons. An A-linc skirt of
English net was edged with
Schiffli lace on an attached
train with a flounced hemline
of fine accordian pleating.
The train was highlighted
with scattered appliques of
silk Venise lace. The finger
tip veil of ivory English net
was edged with lace with an
attached blusher flowing
from a Juliet cap of matching
appliqued silk Venise lace
scattered with wedding
pearls. Her bouquet was
designed and made by the
groom's aunt, Mrs. Ruth
Howard of Louisiana.
MisS Anita Maready of
Chapel Hill, sister of the
bride, served as maid of
honor. Bridesmaids included
Deneen Maready of Warsaw,
sister of the bride; Mrs.
Telza T. Quinn of Magnolia;
and Miss Tammy Halso of
Raleigh, cousin of the bride.
Each attendant wore a formal
taffeta gown fashioned with a
sleeveless, fitted bodice. The
round neckline was bordered
with a self-fabric petal ruffle
that also accented the off
shoulder bodice, the dresses
were in mixed pastel colors
of suede rose, nile green,
lavender and yellow. The
attendants carried old
fashioned hand-picked bou
quets of mixed summer
flowers tied with off-white
lace picoted ribbons.
The flowergirl. Courtney
Kilpatrick of Kenansville,
wore a full-length dress of
seafoam blue taffeta with a
fitted bodice, short puffed
sleeves and a round neck
line featuring a self-fabric
gathered ruffle. She carried a
petite wicker basket filled
with mixed summer flowers
accented with off-white lace
ribbon.
The father of the bride
groom served as best man.
Groomsmen included Mike
Outlaw of Kenansville;
Glenn Elmore of Kinston and
Robbie Blanchard of Kenans
ville, cousins of the groom.
The mother of the bride
chose a street-length dress of
dusty rose. The stepmother
of the bridegroom, Mrs. Beth
King Howard, chose a street
length light blue dress. Both
mothers wore corsages of
regal red roses tied with
matching ribbons.
Grandmothers of the
couple were remembered
with corsages of white fresh
daisies accented with white
and yellow lace bows.
The couple spoke their
nuptial vows before the
church altar centered with ?
bouquet of mixed summer
flowers of snaps, larkspur,
roses, delphinium and
gypsophila. Two nine-light
candelabrums stood on
either side of this focal point
holding tall lighted tapers.
Two green flowing palms

completed the setting along
with the unity candle that
rested on the communion
table. The bridal couple knelt
on the church prie-dieu whil.
"The Lord's Prayer" was
sung as the benediction. >
Mrs. Elna Grey Bostic of
. Kenansville directed the
wedding. Attending the
register were Lora and Terri
Warren, stepsisters of the
bridegroom.
Immediately following the
ceremony, a reception was
given by the bride's family
and friends in Powell Hall in
the church.
The bride is presently
employed as purchasing sec
retary with Reeves Brothers,
Inc. of Kenansville. The
groom is a self-employed
farmer. The couple will make
their home in Kenansville
following a wedding trip to
South Carolina.
Rehearsal Dinner
Prior to rehearsal on
Saturday night. June 18, Mr.
anu Mrs. Bobby Howard,
parents of the groom, enter
tained the wedding party
with a cook-out at their home
in Kenansville. A delicious
meal of steak, tossed salad,
baked potato, rolls and tea
was served. Dessert was
German chocolate cake,
pineapple cake and cherry
jubilee.
Prenuptial Courtesies
The bride was honored
with a miscellaneous shower
on May 12 in Powell Hall in
the Warsaw Baptist Church.
Friends and relatives pre
sented her with many useful
and lovely gifts. The shower
was given by Mrs. Ruby
Blackmore and Mrs. Eveline
Dail, aunts of the bride; and
Mrs. Katie and Myrtle
Graham.
Dallace and Carol Grady,
Shelva Brock and Martha
Swann of Kenansville hosted
a "welcome-to-the-neighbor
hood" shower for the bride
on May 19 at the home of
Dallace Grady. Gues's were
entertained with games,
after which Megon was pre
sented with many lovely
gifts.
The ladies of the Kenans
ville Baptist Church honored
the bridal couple with a
shower at the church on May
26. The couple received
many lovely and useful gifts,
after which refreshments
were served.
The groom s .paternal
grandmother, Mrs. Essie
Edwards of Pink Hill,
honored the couple with a
shower in her home on May
29. Relatives and friends of
the groom's family attended.
Gifts were opened, after
which refreshments were
served.
The bride was given a
lingerie shower June 3 at the
home of Mrs. Telza T. Quinn
of Magnolia. School friends
attended. Hostesses for the
shower were Mrs. Quinn and
Mrs. Kayewood Draughon of
Warsaw.
A cook-out was hosted by
Mr. and Mrs. Timmy Evans
and Mr. and Mrs. Paul,
Phillips on June 10 at the
Evans home. The wedding
party enjoyed a delicious
Mrs. Louis Q. Howard
meal, after which the couple
was presented a gift for their
home.
A bridal luncheon at the
Graham House in Kenans
ville was given for the bride
on June 11 by Mrs. Nadine
Blanton, Mrs. Joyce Bell,
Mrs. Hilda Booth. Mrs.
Sheila Veach, all of Kenans
ville, and Mrs. Wylene
Hewitt of Wilmington. A
delicious dinner was served
after which the bride was
presented a gift.
A bridal luncheon was
given for the bride by Mrs.
- Anna Graham and Mrs.
Kayewood G. Draughon on
June 18 at the Draughon
home in Warsaw. On arrival,
guests were served
appetizers, after which a
delicious meal was enjoved.
