f)rder Of The Arrow Will erform At Amphitheatre w ? The Ihoka Dancers of the Boy Scouts of America, the Brder of the Arrow, will be B;rforming the ritual dances Bf the Sioux Nation at the Bniliam R. Kenan Memorial Bmphitheatre in Kenansville Before the July 23 perfor mance of the outdoor drama. ?HE LIBERTY CART. The ?buncers will perform at 7:45 lJffn. followed by the drama Bt 8:15. I THE LIBERTY CART will Bffer all Cub Scouts, Boy ?couts, Girl Scouts, Brownies and Explorer troops in uniform a special admission price of $1 for the July 23 performances. The Ihoka troop performs the old-style Sioux warrior dances as a way to preserve the culture of the American Plains Indians, advisor Tom Yates explained. Each dancer has been elected to the Order of the Arrow by members of his troop, Yates pointed out. To become eli gible for the Order of the Arrow, a Scout must give exceptional service to both his troop and the community. Members of the OA study American Indian culture and the Ihoka Dancers present the dances in order to pro mote the BSA, Yates said. The troop will perform the Flag, War, Eagle and Hop dances accompanied by authentic Sioux music with the troop chanting several songs. Members of the group include Wes Yates, Tim Led ford, Billy Maxwell, Benny Hardy, Billy McKemmie, Billy King and W.R. Gay. Yates will act as master of ceremonies. I Circus Coming j9 To Kenansville The original Fun-Time Circus is to appear in Kenansville on Tuesday. July 2h and in Wallace July 27 and 28. The Circus grounds will be on Route 24. opposite the Courthouse in Kenansville and across from lAt's Grill in Wallace, Hwy 07 N. Showtimes are at 6 and 8 p m. America's last old-time family tent show will arrive early on show day and trans form the showgrounds into an enchanted village full of fun, laughter and excite- & ment. Beulaville Town Employees Receive Raise / inproocoH taaa|, whirH u/ac rnu^rpH wHpn an oeuiavuie town Commis sioners approved a 10 per cent pay raise for town employees after local citizens appeared before the Board in favor of the salary increase. July 5 at the town hall. A 10 percent salary in crease had been included with the 1983-84 budget at the June 27 special Board meeting. A group of Beulaville citizens appeared ai ti e public hearing on the proposed budget June 27. and opposed the salary raise for town employees due to fees. Commissioner S.A. Bliz zard made the motion to raise town employees salary 10 percent. Tlie motion carried with Commissioner Rab<>n Mareadv voting no. Sarah Bolin appeared before the town board requesting the town repair or replace the septic tank at her rental home on Stanford Street. A letter to the Board from Bolin's attorney David Phillips was presented to the Commissioners. The home is serviced by a septic tank addition was constructed to the house. Bolin explained the property would be con demned bv the Duplin County Health Department if sewer problems were not alleviated. Town attorney Rusty Lanier advised Commission ers that Beulaville was not the only municipality which maintained septic tanks. Maintenance and repair to septic tanks at homes beyond v.'wer lines within city limits and not tank repl?cemeht was the extern of the town's responsibility. Lanier, explained. Commissioner ' Rabon Maready stated his residence has not connected to the town water system and re quested town clerk Carol Miller average his sewer fees for the past 12 months and bill him. Town attorney Lanier advised Maready that a home can unhook from the R?nl<tvillr venter svstem. but town ordinances require pay ment of the minimum bill at that residence. Discon nected from the town water system. Commissioner Blizzard stated. Jhe fees for sewer services would be impossible to calculate with out a meter. The station has been an affiliate of the N.C. News Network for three years. The network is made up of 70 radio stations in 54 markets across the state and is the first in the state delivering programming via satellite, making it a milestone in the history of N.C. radio broadcasting. Jim Goodmon, Capital Broadcasting Co. president and chief executive officer, said, "With this system, we will be providing State Of The Art service to our stations." He predicted the system will be virtually trouble-free and of the highest technical quality.WTRQ is owned by Quinn Broadcasting Co. of Warsaw and managed by J.L. and Winnafred Moseley. A 10,000-watt A.M. daytime station, WTRQ broadcasts country music, news, sports, weather, beach and fishing reports, public affairs programs plus local news and local public service announcements. There is a Saturday afternoon soul program and Sunday mornings are devoted to gospel, religious and public affairs programing. Mrs. Mosley says, "We hope our listeners will appreciate the improved quality of our satellite news service and we look forward to more and better programming in the future."
