How Evergreens Help
A row of lush ever
greens is a thing of beauty.
But much of their beauty
is hidden beneath a very
practical exterior. You see.
a wall of evergreens planted
along the street side of your
home will act as a sound
barrier in addition to pro
* iding privacy and protec
tion froin chilling winds.
Evergreens are very big
energy savers, too Planted
on the predominant wind
ward side of the house, they
serve as excellent wind
breaks. They have been
proven to reduce a home's
heating bill by up to 10
percent.
The secret of evergreens'
greater efficiency over ma
sonry walls is that they let
part of the wind through,
thereby lifting the air cur
rent up and over the house.
With a masonry wall, a tur
bulence is formed between
the wall and house which
draws the wind down full
force against the house.
The Green Survival pro
gram of the American As
sociation of Nurserymen
teaches that evergreens are
one of the essentials in any
landscape plan. Over the
years, they will pay for
themselves in energy savings
and noise reduction.
