Blanton-Johnson . Wed Mary Best Johnson and Tony Marion Blanton were married Saturday, July 30, at four o'clock in the afternoon at the Warsaw Baptist Church. Dr. L. Mack Thompson of Laurinburg officiated the double-ring ceremony. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John A. 0k Johnson of Warsaw. She is the granddaughter of Mrs. Rivers Johnson Sr. of Warsaw. The bridegoom is the son of Mrs. Lindy Winstead of Fayett^ville and the late Marion Aaron Blanton. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Brinson of Richlands. A program of traditional wedding music was pre sented by Ms. Catherine P Vestal, minister of music of ?<he Warsaw Baptist Church, feandy Letnley of Wilming ton, soloist, sang "The Wedding Song" and "The Lord's Prayer." Escorted to the altar by ?- her father, the bride wore a ? floor-length gown of white ; over pink organza with ? Venise flower appliques. The . gown was designed with a mL low round neckline, organza ruffles at the shoulders and a ?? fitted bodice. The skirt was full with a chaoel (rain. Her 5 hat was of Molinc straw with v face appliques. An upturned side was swept back with two small silk pink roses. She ?? wore a waist-length bridal illusion veil The bride carried a smai cascade of m light pink roses with white T and dark pink carnations and W. gypsophila. ? Miss Paula Huyett of " Wrightsville Beach served as maid of honor. She carried a ?? mini nosegay of pink roses * and pink and white carna tions. Bridesmaids were -- Mrs. Mary Lynn Hardee of ? Carolina Beach, cousin of the bride: Miss Jo Carol Jones of Goldsboro, Miss Paula Still ? well of Wilmington, and Miss Donna Strickland of Warsaw. Each attendant wore a floor-length gown of pink organza fashioned with a round neckline with self * bow trim, short puffed sleeves, fitted bodice and full skirt. Each bridesmaid car ried one long stemmed pink rose with pink and white streamers. Ryan Blanton. son of the bridegroom, was ? ringbearer. ^ The bridegroom wore a ? charcoal gray tuxedo with a rose boutonniere. Lindy Winstead, stepfather of the m I =z= bridegroom, served as best man. Groomsmen were Mitchell Blanton and Randy Blanton of Wilmington, brothers of the groom; Arthur Maxwell Greene of Fayette,ville, fraternity brother of the groom, and John A. Johnson Jr. of Raleigh, Bill Johnson of Cape May, N.J., and Tracy Johnson of Warsaw, brothers of the bride. They all wore charcoal gray tuxedos with boutonnieres of pink roses. the mother of the bride chose a formal crepe dress of blue. The groom's mother wore a beige formal gown. Both mothers wore corsages of phalaenopsis orchids. The grandmothers were remem bered with corsages of pink carnations. Mrs. Jenny Carlton Finch presided at the bridal register in the vestibule of the church. The wedding was directed by Mrs. Arnold Murray Jones. The bride is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Wilmington and received her Master's de gree at East Carolina Uni versity in Greeenville. She is emolovcd as librarian with Brunswick Technical College. The groom attended the University ot North Carolina at Wilmington. He is asso ciated with Blanton Heating and Air Conditioning Com pany in Wilmington Following a wedding trip to Florida, the couple will reside in Wilmington. Reception Following the ceremony, the bride's parents enter tained with a reception in their home on Plank Road. Guests were greeted by Mr. and Mrs. Rivers D. Johnson Jr.. uncle and aunt of the bride. Mrs. Eldon Brown of Magnolia, aunt of the bride, served the four-tiered wedding cake, which she made as a gift to the couple. It was decorated with pink roses and topped with fresh flowers. Mrs. William Gattis of Burgaw, aunt of the bride, poured punch. Mrs. Marian Sheffield Fisher of Whitakers and Mrs. Judy Revelle Baran of Wake Forest assisted in serving. Miss Vickie Kelly of Raleigh was hostess-at-large. Good byes were said to Eldon Brown, uncle of the bride. After Rehearsal Dinner An after-rehearsal dinner was given for the Blanton Johnson wedding party at The Graham House Inn on Friday evening. The groom chose this time to present gifts to his attendants. Other Courtesies Mrs. Rivers Johnson Jr. and Mrs. W.E. Craft gave a bridesmaid luncheon at The Country Squire on Friday, July 29. The bride presented gifts to her attendants at this time. On the morning of the wedding, friends of the bride entertained the wedding party, families of the couple, and out-of-town guests with a wedding breakfast at The Country Squire. Mrs. Durwood Strickland, Miss Donna Strickland, Miss Paula Huyett, Mrs. Judy Baran. Mrs. Marian Fisher and Mrs. Edwin Blanchard gave a lingerie shower at the home of Mrs. Strickland on Hill Street in Warsaw. Mr. and Mrs. George Finch honored the bride and groom with a dinner party at the home of Mrs. Finch's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Carlton on Fox Ridge Road in Warsaw. Friends of the bride hosted a kitchen shower at the home of Ms. Jeanne Farrar at Boiling Springs Lake in Brunswick County. The groom's family honored the couple with a pool party and cookout at the home of the groom's sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Benton, in Wil mington on Sunday after noon, July 24. Daughtry and Kit Hobbs, representa tives of the Kenansville Fire and Rescue Departments, spoke to the students en rolled in the cultural en richment program at Duplin Extended Day School. They provided a discussion of training required to be a fircperson. duties and ser vices provided. their personal experiences and conducted ?. question answer session. Students had the opportunity to ex plore a fire engine and handle equipment along with asking questions. Mike Bell of the N.C. Prison Department, and three inmates talked to the ^filHpntc Boll ? -~r _vu gave uiior mation concerning prison life and explained terms such as misdemeanor, felony, gain time. good-time, work re lease, etc. The inmates spoke concerning prison life and wrong-doings which got them in prison. The inmates suggested the students "stay in school." Kelvin Delaney from the Duplin County Arts Council demonstrated and gave the origin of several instruments such as: fiddle, banjo, auto harp. concertina and dulci mer. Students were given the opportunity to request songs and play the dulcimer. On July 21, Sammie Southerland from the Em ployment Security Commis sion presented information about ESC's major services, applications, referral cards, job system information, un employment insurance end tips on how to find a job.
