NAMED ALL-TOURNAMENT The War saw Little League All-Star team participated in the Marion Merritt Invitational baseball tournament sponsored by the Goldsboro Boys' Club last week, Warsaw picked up fourth place in the 11-team tournament. A team of nine all-tournament players was named from the 150 partipants, and War saw's Bron Thompson and Patrick Boyette were among the all-tournament selections, i Bron is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jene i Thompson and Patrick is the son of Mr. and 1 Mrs. Brooks Boyette. Bron played second 1 base, shortstop and pitched. Patrick pitched and played third base during the Little League games. The All-Stars lost Thursday night to Kinston after nine innings with the score 5-4. On Friday they won over Goldsboro 12-9. Boyette was the winning pitcher. The Warsaw team got 8 hits in the bottom of the 5th inning and scored 10 runs. The final defeat came in the bottom of the bth inning when Elizabeth City drove in two runs for a final score of 5-4. The UNC Center for Public TV will begin broadcasting these courses Sept. b over channels 4 or 19 across the country. Courses will be broadcast from 8-8:30 a.m. weekdays and weekday af ternoons front 8:30-4 p.m.. and from 7-8 a.m. on Sat urdays. (Only GED repeated) All the courses are free but you must sign up at James Sprunt Technical College on or before Aug. 29. You can register on Aug. 22 and 25 between 9-11 a.m.. 1-3:30 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. Trained instructors are avail able to help. Members were welcomed by club president. Lottie Noble. A devotional was given by chaplain. Belle Jones. Following lunch. Sue Akoury of the Kinston Recreation Department, club advisor, presented a plaque to Eliza King, who was voted "outstanding club member of 1983." Mrs. King has served as treasurer since the group's organization in Julv of 1981. Attending were Estelle Creel, Essie Edwards, Kath leen Harper, Mamie Heath, Paulene Heath, Gladys Howard. Belle Jones, Eliza King, Florence Mallard. Viola Mills. Lottie Noble, Beulah Quinn, Carrie Smith and Sarah Worley. The club is currently mak ing plans for a trip to Fisherman's Wharf. The next meeting will be on Aug. 24 at 2 p.m. at the Pink Hill Presbyterian Church. At that time all are asked to bring a prize to donate for Bingo.
