Adult Education Spotlighted At James Sprunt Adult basic education is being emphasized at James Sprunt Technical College, according to Alfred Wells, dean of students. Adult classes are even being set up in some fac tories in the county, he said. "One of the most exciting things now is the $189,000 we have for replacing out worn shop and laboratory equipment," he said. JSTC will graduate 125 students at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 25 in the William Rand Kenan Memorial Amphi theatre. Enrollment for the first of the school's two summer sessions totaled 440, an in crease of 42 from the first summer session of 1982, Wells said. The college has received a three-year grant totaling $565,899 from the U.S. De partment of Education, Wells said. The grant, which will begin Oct. 1 will be used for five projects: ? Expansion and com puterization of the informa tion management system. ? Improvement and ex pansion of computer-related courses and instruction of the faculty in computer use. Five computer-related courses will be added to the curri culum. More than 100 students enrolled in computer-related classes last year, he added. Most were employed but were seeking to improve their capabilities. ? Faculty development to improve academic pro grams. ? Improvement of ad ministration through management training for 14 administrators. ? Development of a counseling program to co ordinate all support services to students. The technical college, lo cated on N.C. II south of Kenansville, has four build ings with 100,000 square feet of area for classes, offices, laboratories, a media center and an auditorium. It employs 40 to 45 full time instructors. MISS USA JR.
