Duplin Fair To Feature Charlie's Amusements Charlie's Amusements of LyndoqviUe, N.Y. presents ? line-up of spectacular rides and family-oriented games in its 1983 edition. The family-owned carni val. in its third year, will be featured at the Duplin County Agribusiness Fair in Kenan^ville, Oct. 3-8. Owned and operated by Margaret and Gene Chaffee and John and Dee Ketchum, the well-rounded carnival has rides for both young and old. Among the featured at tractions is a Paratrooper ride which sends patrons soaring over 30 feet into the air and then swoops them back down again. For those more daring, the Round Up might be your next stop as this twirling ride shifts you into a world of near-weightlessness. Once the ride speeds up it is lifted to almost a 90-degree angle for added thrills. And of course there are standard favorites such as a giant ferris wheel, swings, merry-go-round and roller coaster. But .visiting a carnival entails more than just rides; That's why Charlie's Amuse ments has plenty of enter taining games desj^ned to make even the children easy winners. And when the family gets hungry, there are ,good things to eat from the modern trailer-mounted con cessions. You'll find all of your favorites, including popcorn, candy apples, cotton candy, pizza and fried dough. Being family-oriented is a priority with Charlie's Amusements. The personnel are clean and courteous and all the ride attendants sport show caps and shirts during operating hours. And during these tough economic times, Charlie's Amusements realizes the ex pense involved in bringing families to the carnival or fair. In meeting these prob lems head-on. the company has been able to hold the prices on rides. All this and much, much more await you at the second 1 t ' ? annual Duplin County Agri-' business Fair at the old elementary school on High-' way #11 in Kenan|ville. ii A Space To Grow Environments And Children The Duplin County Arts Council presented a special gift to the people of Duplin County in the form of guest consultant Gary S. Dileggs from the Dance Foundation of Birmingham, Alabama. Dileggs first appeared in conjunction with the school's first annual Study Confer ence, Kenansville Elemen tary. Merle Creech, execu tive director of the Arts Council, presented him and Gladys Rose, teacher at Warsaw Elementary, pre sided. He then appeared at James Sprunt Technical Col lege for a community work shop. Dileggs presented a talk and slides on ways to create organic and dynamic environments for childretT. Environmental art education approaches and techniques for creative experiential edu cation were offered and ways that teachers and workers can become catalysts for learning were shared. Dileggs has recently worked on the planning for the World's Fair of 1984 and the International Festival of Peace." He will be helping the Arts Council plan for the Duplin Agribusiness Fair but he will also be a resource to all people who work with children and space. Dileggs knows children. He knows teachers. And, he knows space. He did come not to talk of the either/or but of the creation of an integration of the three. He came to talk of a space to grow.
