Pancake Supper
The Kenan^ville Jaycees,
in cooperation with the
citizens of the Sandy Plains
community north of Beula
.ville, are sponsoring a
pancake supper on Tuesday,
Sept. 6 to raise funds to help
with the medical expenses of
Mrs. Harold (Violette) Byrd.
The pancake supper will be
held at the Sandy Plains Free
Will Baptist Church day care
? ?
center, located three miles
north of Beul^ville on NC
#241. The supper will be
served from 6:30 p.m. until 8
p.m. The cost will be S2.50
for adults and $2 for children
under 12. pancakes, sausage
and beverage will be served.
Anyone wishing to help
with or donate to the project
should contact Dean or
Norma Teachey at 298-3369.
E.E. Smith
Expands Curriculum
The 1983-84 school year
began with a staff meeting
in the cafeteria of E.E. Smith
Junior Higfi School. A mo
ment of silent prayer was
held in memory of the late
James M. Robinson, teacher
of exceptional children.
Mrs. E.D. Hueston gave
the opening prayer and J.G.
Henry, principal, gave the
words of welcome and in
troduced new staff members.
The curriculum has been
expanded to include indus
trial arts and the introduction
to business. W.P. Fennell
will teach both courses. Mrs.
E.D. Hueston will teach
home economics and the
introduction to business, and
both will also teach career
exploration. Mrs. V. Quinn,
county media supervisor, will
be part-time librarian replac
ing Mrs. W.B. Frederick who
retired.
Other faculty members
are: Mrs. J.P. Blalock -
language arts and 7th grade
math; Mrs. A.D. Craft -
launguage arts and 8th grade
social studies; Mrs. Z.B.
Williams - English and
writing; Mrs. D.B. Grady -
remedial reading; Mrs. J.C.
McCullen - remedial math;
Miss M.E. West - science,
health and P.E.; D.W. Nunn
- health and physical edu
cation; M. Graham - social
studies; Mrs. S.H. Smith -
science; K.A. Dempsey -
general math and algebra;
Mrs. D.B. McGowan - ex
ceptional children in the MU
class; G.A. Hanks - excep
tional children in the TMH
class; and Mrs. G.B. Mor
gan. guidance counselor.
A learning disabilities and
EMH teacher will be selected
later. An additional teacher
for the exceptional children
in the MU classes will be
selected also.
Orientation Day for new
students was Aug. 18. and
students reported for school
on Aug. 22 at 8 a.m.
The names and
homerooms was posted by
grade and section.

with cheese roll, potatoes or
baked beans, lettuce and
tomato, applesauce or pears.
Thur. - toasted cheese
sandwich or fried chicken
with rice and roll, broccoli or
green limas. potato salad,
fruited gelatin or fresh fruit.
Fri. - seawich or ham with
macaroni and cheese with
cornbread, french fries or
greens, coleslaw, mixed
fruit or peaches, cake square
Each lunch is served with
lowfat chocolate or plain
milk.
