, Hood-Whitford Exchange Vows Nancy Ann Whitford of Kinston and Robert L. Hood Jr. of Pink Hill were united in marriage at one o'clock Sunday, August 21, at Queen Street United Methodist Church. The Reverend Robert O'Keef officiated at " e double-ring ceremony. The bride was jyven in marriage by her mother and was escorted to the altar by her brother-in-law, William Stewart Bishop Jr. of Hills borough. She is the daughter of Mrs. Milan Gray Whitford and the late Mr. Whitford. The- groom is the son of Mrs. Rowena B. Hood of Pink Hill and Robert L. Hood of Richlands. The bride wore a semi formal white organza gown. It was fashioned with a draped, drop-shoulder neck line accented with ,venise lace etched with pearls, and a pointed front waistline. The softly gathered' skirt with antebellum drapes atop a deep ruffle flowed into a brush train. Topping the walking length ,veil was a draped halo accented with venise lace and pearls. Ms. Frances Bishop of Hillsborough, ^sister of the bride, was matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Mrs. Mary Sue Roach of Dyrham, sister of the bride, and Tay Rett Hood of Pink Hill, sister of the groom. Laura Linden Whitford Bishop of Hills borough was the ring bearer. The groom chose his father to serve as best man. Ushers were Charles William Roach of Durham and Scott Stroud of Pink Hill. Nuptial music was pre sented by Dr. Kim Beaman, organist. The wedding was directed by Mrs. John Steinert. The bride is a graduate of Kinston High School and she attended Atlantic Beauty School in Durham. The groom graduated from Arendell Parrott Academy and is a rising sophomore at East Carolina University in Greeqville. He is presently employed as a pharmacy technician at Pitt Memorial Hospital. After a wedding trip to unannounced points, the couple will reside in Green sville. The rehearsal dinner was given Saturday evening by the parents of the groom at King's Restaurant. This was followed by a traditional cutting of the wedding cake by the couple. The cake was served by Ms. Frances Bishop, sister of the bride, and punch was served by Mrs. Mrs. Mary Sue Roach, sister of the bride. Kennnsville News Cluster Meeting Grove Presbyterian Church was represented by 14 persons at the Pink Hill tea cluster supper meeting Id Monday in the Pleasant Grove Church near Albert son. Other churches in this area are Pink Hill, Smith's and Harper Southerland. Those from Grove attending were: The Reverends Ann and David Dickey, Rev. and Mrs. Troy D. Mullis. Louise K. Boney. Ruth B. Wells. Louise W. Mitchell. Thelma * Murphy, Frances ephens. Pattie Loftin, Doris Simmons and Joe Chitty, also J illy and Rocky Long. The Rev. June High fell welcomed those present and the Rev. Frank Sawyer asked the blessing. After the barbecue supper, a musical program was presented by John and Sheila Bron of Wilmington. Eastern Star Kenan^ville Chapter #215, ?Order of the Eastern Star, met Tuesday night. Due to the absence of the two top officers, Sally Tyndall served as worthy matron and J.B. Stroud as worthy patron. A program on Rob Morris, founder of the order, was given by Louise K. Boney assisted by others present. The next stated meeting will be on Tuesday night. Sept. 13th. Personals Mrs. Sheldon Swann spent the weekend in Garner with the Gene English family. Mr. and Mrs. Allen Rhodes of N. Hollywood. Fla, are .visiting his sister, Miss Annie Catherine Rhodes and other relatives in Duplin. Mesdames Amos Brinson and Doc Brinson.visited Mrs. mm m Virginia Holland in the Lenoir Memorial Hospital in Kinston Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Fleming Wester of Raleigh ^visited Mrs. Adrian Bostic during the weekend. Mr. and Mrs. T.J. Tolson o; Goldsboro and Mrs. Hamilton Cooke of Wash ington, D.C. visited Mrs. N.B. Bell Stallings in Wallace. w big lion Church 100th Birthday The Big Zion African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church in Kenans.ville is celebrating its 100th church birthday celebration this week with services nightly at 8 p.m. Rev. james M. Sloan ? d member of St. Luke M.E. Zion Church of Wil mington will climax the birthday service Sunday. Sept. 4 at 4 p.m. Homecoming and Dedica torial Service will be held Sunday, Sept. 25. Bishop Ruben L. Speaks, presiding bishop of the 10th Episcopal District of the A.M.E. Zion Church will be the 100 a.m. guest speaker. JSTC Alumni Association Selects Project The installation of deco ^tive concrete benches to enhance the entrance of JSTC's McGowen Building is this year's project selected by the Alumni Association at their July meeting. The benches will be con structed by students in the building trades program and will be placed along the entrance walkways for use of students and.visitors. ?James Cyrus, a 1983 aduate of JSTC's business administration program and a member of the Alumni Association, has made the first contribution toward fi nancing the project, by pre senting the Association a $50 donation.
