Other winners in cluded J.P. Smith and part ner C.J. Mercer in the first flight with Mejvin Ward and Billy Merritt coming in second. Jerry Cooke teamed with his son Ray to win the ^second flight, followed by Vloe and Dwight Sholar. Johnny Carlton and Dalton Rouse were closest to the pin winners. ***** Wallace's Bobby Mat thews, defending club champ at Rockfish, will battle Billy Harrell for the 1983 club championship at RCC. ***** Pro Doug Smith announces 0he annual Member-Guest tournament to be played at PRO. Defend ing champ Buster Johnson had to go 20 holes to stop big Ed Rector, Lloyd Parker stopped Gerald Quinn, and Harold Mathis edged young Pat Mathis to set the pace in the championship flight. In other play Dan Holtom de feated Colon Quinn, Carl Price stopped Charles Suttpn, Brian Ellenberg downed Jerry Smith, Lonnie Hedrick beat Elvis Bostic, Noble Martin bested George Penney, and James Carr turned back Jack Hill. ***** Fore. voneyoaii Tournament The Kenan$ville Jaycettes are sponsoring a volleyball tournament to raise money for the Ronald McDonald House in Durham. The tour nament will be held on Saturday, Sept. 24, in the JCenan ^Memorial Auditorium in Kenansville, and on Sun day, Sept. 25 at the Recrea tion Department in Warsaw. The tournament will be a round-robin and individu i" trophies will be given to the first and second place teams. An admission fee of V.50 or a donation to the Ronald McDonald House will be taken at the door. Come out and support your favorite team. Concessions will be served. All proceeds will go to a great cause. Help your local Kenansville Jaycettes raise money for families in crisis. For more Informs- } # tlon.call A k 568-3562 A flE This, That and The Other, Pink Hill HHH James Kenan Hosts East Duplin Calypso: Wallace-Rose Hill upended North Duplin 28-6 in the top East Central 2-A Conference football war last week to remain unbeaten with a perfect 3-0 record. North Duplin fell to 2-1 tied for second place in the league. It was the first win over the Rebels in 15 years for the Dawgs and how sweet it was. Coach Jack Holley's Bull dogs played with intensity throughout the contest, keeping the Rebels deep in their own territory most of the game. Coach Kenneth Avent's Rebs battled the Bulldogs most of the game but mistakes led to their defeat. James Kenan took a 26-14 halftime lead and managed to hold on to stop non conference foe Pender High ? 26-21 at Burgaw last week. It was the Tigers second straight win after their open ing loss to Clinton. James Kenan drove 45 yards with back Chuck Anderson scor ing to tie the score 7-7 in early play. Quarterback Chuck Grady hit Mickey Faison on a 40-yard TD to give James Kenan a 14-7 lead. Faison broke the Patriots' back on a kick return that gave the Tigers the win. In other East Central action, East Duplin bounced back to defeat the Spartans of Union 48-6, while Lake wood had to battle Midway down to the wire to win 36-34 in another ECC test.
