The bride is a 1979 graduate of Southwest Edgecombe High School and a 1983 graduate of East Carolina University school of business. The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Houston Bodell Howard of Pink Hill. He is a 1979 graduate of South Lenoir High School and is presently i ,*:nployed with The New 1 W.H. Houston Bodell Howard, father of the bridegroom, served as the best man. Groomsmen were Gerald Kent Johnson Jr. of Rocky Mount, brother-in-law of the bride; Raymond Gene Spear Jr. of Deep Run, Robert Leslie Turner, Houston Bodell Howard Jr.. brother of the bridegroom, Bobby Glenn Smith, uncle of the bridegroom, Mitchell Wayne Smith, brother-in-law of the bridegroom, all of Pink Hill. Houston Bodell Howard III, nephew of the bridegroom, was the ringbearer. Immediately following the ceremony, a reception was given by the parents of the bride in the West Haven Presbyterian Church fellowship hall. Mr. and Mrs. Donald Kennedy greeted the guests. Mrs. Jean Howard of Pink Hill, sister-in-law of the bridegroom, and Miss Ginger Cummings of Pinetops served the wedding cake. Mrs. Angela Hill and Mrs. Gail Walters, both of Rocky Mount, served the punch. After a wedding trip to Cypress Gardens, Florida, the couple will make their home in Pink Hill. Bridal Entertainment A surprise pantry shower was given for the bride by her college friends on August 13 in Pink Hill. Hostesses were Mrs. Gay Barnes, Miss Ginger Cummings, Mrs. Cheryl Rouse and Miss Hope Toler. On August 14, a miscel laneous shower was given for the bride and bridegroom by family and friends of the bridegroom at the Pink Hill Presbyterian Church. Hostesses were Mrs. Pam Smith, Mrs. Jean Howard. Mrs. Hilda Grace Smith, Mrs. Lucille Smith, Miss Bobbie Howard, Miss Mary Howard, Mrs. Vera Turner and Mrs. Shirley Outlaw. An ice cream supper was given honoring the couple on Friday, August 19 at the tome of Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Price. Hosting were Mr. and Mrs. Price. Mr. and Mrs. Laddie Crisp. Mr. and Mrs. Eloh Johnson, Mr. and ' Mrs. Glenn Lawrence, Mrs. Daisy James and Miss Karen James. A pig picking for the couple was given by the parents of the bridegroom on Saturday, August 20 ir Pink Hill. A surprise shower was given for the bride by the employees, at First Citizens Bank on August 24. A lingerie shower was given on August 27 for the bride by Mrs. Jeannette Johnson at her home. A bridesmaid's luncheon was held on Sept. 3 at the Depot. This was given by Mrs. Amy Johnson, sister of the bride. An after-rehearsal dinner was given by the parents of the bridegroom on Sept. 9 at the Ramada Inn for the members of the wedding party. Birthday Racaptlon Held For Blackmore On Saturday afternoon, Sept. 10, the family of Mary Alice Blackmore held a reception for her honoring her on her 75th birthday. The reception was held in the Powell Hall of the Warsaw Baptist Church, which had been arranged with an autumn setting. Arrangements of flowers in brass, silver and crystal containers were placed throughout the room. The table was covered with a white cloth with a yellow chrysanthemum and ferns tied with white satin ribbon forming a bow with streamers at the four corners of the table. Candles in silver candleholders lighted the table. The birthday cake was , iced with white with the number 75 atop, pink iced roses circled the cake and across the top leaving space for "Happy Birthday. Mary Alice." Mrs. Ruby Black more and Mrs. James Black more served fruit punch, homemade cheese wafers, homemade mints and nuts from the table. Mrs. Frank Blackmore welcomed the guests at the door and at the guest book where they registered. Frank Blackmore and Dr. James Blackmore greeted and welcomed the guests throughout the reception. SANDUN'S CELEBRATE 50TH ANNIVERSARY - Mr. and Mrs. Jim Sandlin of Pink Hill were honored by their children on their fiftieth anniversary with a surprise reception on Saturday. August 27, at S p.m. The event was held at the home of Elwocd and Joyce Jones at 807 N. Church Street in Mount Olive. The Sandlins were married in Duplin County on August 26, 1933. Auctioneering Contest To Highlight Duplin Fair The 1983 Duplin Agribusi ness Fair will feature the second annual Tobacco Auc tioneering contest on Thurs day night of the fair (Oct. 6) at 7 p.m. in the auditorium of the old Kenan^ville elemen tary school. Anyone is eli gible to compete. It is not required that the individual be licensed. Contestants will have the chance to show off their chants before the home crowd while taking bids from Theatre At The Fair The Duplin Community ; Theatre will present "Not Enough ftope" by Elaine May at the Duplin Agri business Fair. The one-act comedy Not Enough Rope" will be presented Oct. 3, 4 and 5 in the William R. Kenan Memorial Amphi theatre on the fairgounds in Kenan$ville.
