DUFFER Lakewood Pro Doua Smith reports the team of Dennis Beasley and Eddie Ray Jones beat out the team of Billy Potter and the Spiderman to win the annual Member Guest tournament last week end at his club in Magnolia. Billy Merritt and partner Leon Wells took the first just in front of Michael Stancil and Cliff Jones. Jack Carr and teammate Preston Al bertson battered Melvin Pope and partner Billy Ken nedy to win top honors in the second. Bobby Smith and Marshall Phillips won special awards for closest to pin. ***** Hugh Carlton and team of Robert Lee, Robert Chest nutt and George Penney came up winners in the annual Shindig tournament at Duplin Country Club with rounds of 32-30 last week end. ***** Pro Jim Finch announced a Two-Person supernall scne duled at Rockfish of Wallace Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 15-16. Wildcats Defeat Panthers E.E. Smith behind the running of Kenny Hooks, broke open a close ballgame in the second half to defeat the Beulaville Panthers 24-12. Hooks ran over two touch downs in the first half to put the Wildcats up 12-0. In the second half Jonathan Steele ran a 12-yard touchdown and Stephen Pitunan ended the Wildcat scoring by catching a 60-yard pass from Edward Jarman. Beulaville scored twice in the second half on a 60-yard kickoff return and a 50-yard pass play. The win g^ve Smith a 1-0 record with a big game coming up this week at Charity. Statistics included: Rush ing - Hooks - 105 yds, Hardison -24 yds, Steele 19, C. Hooks 15, and Lawson 6 yds. Passing: 60-yd TD, Jarman to Pittman. Defen sive standouts - Barry Har dison, Curtis Hooks, Edward Jarman and Aaron Lawsnn. Beulaville Man Dies In House Fire A 53-year-old Beulaville man died early Sunday morning in a house Jire, according to Dtputy Glenn Jernigan of the Duplin County Sheriff's Depart ment. Jernigan said passing motorists noticed the fife on West Stanford Street just outside the city limits and notified autfioiities at 5:30 a.m. When trie Beulaville Fire Department arrived on the scene, the house was engulfed in flames, and the body of fUenwood Bostic was found 15 minutes later. Roctic 'lived alone in the house. Jentigan said. Jernigan said the fire probably started from a ciga rette. Medical Examiner C.L. Quinn of Magnolia was noti , fied at 6:38 a.m., and later prom^nced Bostic dead. J ND To Test JK in ECC Football TIGER FIELD - James Kenan's Mickey "Scooter" Faison electrified the Tiger fans last week with another outstanding performance* scoring one touchdown and darting for 183 yards, plus a fine defensive job against Hobbton. The win moved JK into a tie with Wallace Rose Hill for first place in the ECC, with identical 4-0 records. The Tigers lost their opening game against second-ranked Clinton's Dark Horses. The Dawgs are unbeaten with a 6-0 mark and ranked fourth in 2-A in the East. Fullback Chuck Anderson scored twice for James Kenan and rushed for 87 yards against the tough Wildcats. Thomas Faison added a 27-yard field goal and one extra point to the Tiger cause. Standouts for the Tiger defense, led by Derwin Faison, included Ray Cooke, Lynwood Carlton, Thomas Faison and Kelvin Bell. James Kenan will travel to Rebel country this week to take on rival North Duplin in what could be a real character builder for the un beaten Tigers and something to prove Rebels. So, look for the game with North Duplin to be very exciting and rewarding to the winner, to say the least. Wallace-Rose Hill shut out unbeaten Lakewood 30-0 in an important ECC game Friday .night in Roseboro. It was the 6th straight jivin for the Bulldogs o'f Coach Jack Holley. The loss was the. first in the ECC for the Lakewood Leopards and dropped them to third place, in the East Central race. Coach Jean Wort.hjngton's East Duplin Panthers picked up their second ECC win Friday beating Midway 18-6.? East Duplin moved into a tie for fourth in tfie ECC.
