Son of a 9** r Jo* Lanier i 1 have heard of things being "manufactured obsolete, V meaning once they were built, there would be no repair parts or ways to repair them. . .1 think eyeglasses are in this category. While trying to clean my glasses, I broke one of the shafts. . .Now, there is a glue powerful enough to hold a car in the air glued to a small piece of metal, but there is no glue to repair the plastic shaft of a pair of eyeglasses or specs. . .Two places I went to inquire about ordering a single shaft. . . "They don't make these any- i more," I was told. . .though 1 had bought them only three years ago. . .They do make some similar, so you have two ] choices ? buy a complete new set of rims or two similar I shafts. . .Now, I must assume if the glasses I bought three years ago are already obsolete, the ones 1 am buying the shafts from are also obsolete. . .So, in all probability, the price of the shafts is the price of the rims. . .By the way, | the best thing I could find to hold the two pieces of broken \ shaft together was celophane tape. . .It would not last ) long, however. Pretty soon my glasses would begin a slow J slide down to the end of my nose. . .It is very hard to look t down while holding your head up to keep your glasses , from sliding off.... ***** Duplin Countians can start slinging mud again. . .The county commissioners, in their infinite wisdom, struck down a law from the county's books of ordinances this past Monday. . .The "sedimentation ordinance," which simply means (or meant) "when you construct or disturb your land, you keep the mud on your land. . .Don't cause it to run on your neighbors'." .. .Duplin has had the ordinance since 1973. . .Now, 10 years later, they take "it off the books. . .With the law, or ordinance, on the books, you had to show a plan to keep the mud on your property before disturbing it. . .Now it will be an after-the-fact thing that will, 1 suppose, have to be worked out in the courts. . .As you can see, we are moving ahead; we are creating jobs for iawyers. . .By the way, the farmer is, or was, exempt from the ordinance; builders who disturbed over an acre were not. . .Son-of-a-Gun. . ..
