Along w-ith 730 other out standing FFA'ers, the South Lenoir-chapter member was honored at the 5bth National FFA convention in Kansas City. Missouri. Always a highlight of the convention, the American Farmer degree ceremony in cluded tbc presentation of a certificate and gold key to Mac as he walked across the convention stage in front of thousands of FFA members. ' l 74 To Be Laid Off At Lenoir Hospital I From the News and Observer Officials at Lenoir Memorial Hospital an nounced Friday that 74 em ployees will be laid off begin ning Nov. 23 because of a decline in the number of patients. L. Daniel Duval Jr., hos pital president, said the drop had forced the hospital to implement other cost-saving measures, including a hiring freeze and consolidation of the third-floor nursing sec tion. Susan Q. Nobles, director of the community relations, said the hospital had pro jected for its operating budget a daily patient load of 251 for the current fiscal year. But through the first two monts of the fiscal year, the patient load had averaged 217 to 237 patients per day. The hospijal has 281 beds and employs about 813 full and part-time workers, she said. Duval said 39 employees would be laid off Nov. 23 and another 35 would be laid off Nov. 26. Jimmv Sutton _ M Memorial Scholarship Winner Implementation of the Jimmie Sutton Memorial Scholarship for 1983-84 was announced by Jesse L. Mc Daniel, Lenoir Community College president. Winner of the Sutton scholarship of S300 for this year is Dan Barry Croom of Seven Springs, son of Horace and Irene Croom, who are employed at Caswell Center. Croom was active in Future Farmers of America leader ship and projects in high school. In his freshman year at LCC he was active in the F.A.R.M. Club and was in vited to enroll in Phi Theta Kappa, highest scholastic fraternity at the college. His plans for the future include a major in agricultural educa tion at N.C. State University.
