Handel's "The Messiah" to be given Thursday, Dec. 1 by the A&T State University Choir under the direction of Dr. Sam Barber at 7:30 p.m. at Adoram Baptist Church in Wallace. Forty-seven choir members will be participa ting. There will be no ad mission charge but a love offering will be taken. While in the county, the A&T students will perform at Charity Junior High on Fri day, Dec. 2 at 9 a.m. and at 10:40 a.m. at James Kenan High School. These special programs are brought to the county by the Duplin County Arts Council and bv funding from the Z. Smith Reynolds Foun dation. 4-H Leadership Award Thelma James was selected as the 1983 Outstanding 4-H Leader in Duplin County James was presented the award during the Duplin 4-H Awards program Nov. 15 at Kenan Memorial Auditorium in Kenansville. NC Fruit And Vegetable Growers Hold Trade Show The North Carolina Fresh Vegetable Growers Associa tion will be conducting their annual trade show an'd vege table school Wednesday, Dec. 7. The event will be heid at the Lenoir County F.xtension office and the Kinston Livestock Arena, and will begin at 8 a.m. According to Phil Den linger. assistant agricultural extension agent. This year's school will be better than ever. In the morning three concurrent sessions will be held. During one session topics concerning cucumbers will be discussed such as varieties, disease and insect control, and general cucum ber culture. During another session", many 'aspects of cabbage production will be taught. The third concurring session w ill cover a variety of topics such as containerized transplants, dealing with compacted soil, and inten sive vegetable production in North Carolina. In the afternoon, topics on post-harvest handling and pest management will be covered. The trade show will offer many exhibits and door prizes will be given away in the afternoon.
