Lenoir CC Courses The agriculture depart ment at Lenoir Community College will offer several popular courses during the winter quarter at the main campus. Jones County Unit and at the Greene County Extension Unit in Snow Hill according to Bruce William son, department head. On Monday from 3-7:25 p.m., a course entitled Soil and Water Conservation will be taught on the main LCC campus. Course topics will include various conservation practices, actual field work and tours of completed con servation projects. A course in the basic techniques of welding will be taught on Tuesday evenings from 6-10:25 p.m. Also on Tuesday evenings a course on Farm Records and Ac counts will be taught from 7 to 10 p.m. It will also be offered at the same time at the Jones County Unit in Trenton on Monday evenings and at the Greene County Extension Unit in Snow Hill on Wednesday evenings. On Thursday evenings a course in Farm and Home Construction will be taught on the main campus from 6 to 10:25 p.m. At the Greene County Unit on Monday evenings, a course in farm taxes will be taught from 7 to 10 p.m. ENGAGEMENT ANNOUNCED - Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Kelly of Route 2, Mount Olive, announce the engagement and the forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Betty Faye, to Michael Kent Miller, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Miller of Route 1, Beulaville. The wedding is planned for January 21st at three o'clock in the afternoon at the Alum Springs Missionary Baptist Church. All friends and relatives of the couple are invited to attend. Beth Grant To Appear In Play In Charlotte "Whatever happened to little Beth Grant?" that question may often be asked in Charlotte and Wilmington, where Grant, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William L. Grant of Kenansville, grew up. The answer, "she's alive, well and kicking at least 25 hours a day." For the past four years. Grant served as director of creative services for George Cchlutter Productions, pro ducers of television shows such as "Real People." "Real Kids," and "Look At Us." Her responsibilities in cluded writing, producing and direction on air promo tions, as well as field pro ducing several segments and supervising celebrities such as Skip Stevenson and Sarah Purcell. Those are just two of the -nationally known talents she has worked with in some capacity ? whether serving as dialogue coach for Jerry Stiller (Stiller & Meara), or sharing the leadership posi tion at an experimental Hollywood film school with Robert Diniro, Duston Hoffman, Paul Newman, Glenda Jackson, Lucille Ball and Sylvester Stallone, or serving as an apprentice producer of the television series "Switch" with Robert Wagner and F.ddie Albert. Prior to her association with "Real People," Grant was seen in the recurring role of Mary the waitress in the NBC series "B.J. and the Bear." She has appeared on Broadway in "Journey" and off-Broadway in "Holy Ghosts," which she also produced. From New York to Los Angeles, from "Follies" to "Diddhartha," Grant has been busy in all the right places. Grant is a graduate of East Carolina University. Three years ago at her alma mater, she appeared in the play "Vanities." While attending New Hanover High School in Wilmington, she was select ed to attend the Governor's School. That's when she began her association with other production and cast members of "On A Southern Journey." They are actress Berlinda Tolbert who ap pears as Jenny in the CBS television show "The Jef Beth Grant fersons," actor Ron Do rich, former instructor at the Duke Ellington School of Perform ing Arts, and director Defoy Glenn, executive director of GM Productions. Grant recently resigned her position at Schlatter to ? pursue a full-time acting career. So this reunion is extra special. She says, "It was a difficult decision to give up the security, but ? <?; ? time when you have to follow your heart .My heart's desire has always been to act, and now for the first time. I'm putting every thing else aside and going for it. I'm excitied and optimistic ? and coming home to do this play about coming home is the perfect way to begin." Angelou certainly lives up to that claim in her most recent dramatic presentation, "On A Southern Journey." The play premiers Dec. 16, 17 and 18 at Spirit Squre, 7th and North Tryon Street, Charlotte. Angelou superbly cap tured the pain and pleasure of the southern experience in her best selling books, "I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings," "Gather Together in my Name," and "Singing and Swinging and Getting Merry Like Christmas." Once again she does it in "On A Southern Journey." The plot centers around three characters who are thrown together at a train station. Each is headed for the same small southern town to attend a trial which affects their lives individu ally and collectively. Angelou and the forces behind this play cannot ig nore the south and especially not North Carolina. Angelou currently is a professor at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem.
