Along tho Way Bully Kltlott* -1 Christmas is a special time l>{ year when people dress-up their homes and spread good cheer through-dut their community. Many North Carolina towns dressed-up and offered Christmas cele brations which included stories of the yuletide sea son, caroling, good food and decorations. Kenansville is among the 37 towns listed in the Car (jolina Christmas brochure "published each year by the North Carolina Division of Travel and Tourism. The brochure shares 87 different celebrations of the Christmas season in North Carolina. Kenansville is listed for its Twelve Days of Christmas celebration. The Twelve Days of Christmas celebration began p Dec. 14 in Kenansville with the lighting of the commun ity tree at the park. Follow ing the lighting of the Christmas tree, Kenansville citizens caroled by a bonfire and through the town on a hayride. Each night the cele bration continued with a Christmas presentation by the James Kenan High School band and chorus, the ^ East Duplin High School Jl Masqueraders and the per formance of the rock musical "Joy' and a weekend of living history at Liberty Hall with guests from the North Car olina 3rd Battalion camped outside. The Sounds of Music of Wallace and Visit ing Artist at James Sprunt Technical College John Goodnow filled two days with Christmas songs. And, in the \y tradition of Christmas, the community gathered for a covered dish supper and the meal was followed by an hour of films for the children. Tonight, Dec. 22, the Twelve Days of Christmas brings a presentation of the art of John White at the Kenapsville United Metho dist Church. Joe Webb, Director of Social Studies for the Department of Public Instruction and Jim Fugate, Social Studies instructor at Trexler Junior High School in Richlands, will present White's early drawings and sketches of the building of Elizabeth II. The art pre sentation begins at 7:30 p.m. Friday the Kenansville mer chants will be having open house. Merchants will be open until 9 p.m. and offer special prices for late shop pers. Santa Claus will also be downtown for the children. Christmas Eve, the Twelve Days of Christmas offers a combined community church service at Grove Presbyter ian Church beginning at 7:30 p.m. The Reverend Jim Harris, pastor of the Kenan sville United Methodist Church is the scheduled speaker. The final day, Christmas Day, the Twelve Days of Christmas devotes to family activities. Across the state a number of other Christmas activities are still in progress including some nearby attractions. Historic Wilmington can be toured until December 23. Thalian Hall, Burgwin - Wright House, Zebulon Latimer House and the Governor Dudley Mansion are decorated for Christmas. And, a lour of Popular Gove Plantation by candlelight will continue until December 23. The manor house and de pendencies are decorated in the traditional holiday style. Chapel Hill is offering a winter art showing at the Ackland Art Museum through January 8. The prints, drawings, manu scripts and photographs relative to the winter holiday season were selected from the museum's permanent collection. The "Star of Bethlehem" will be offered at the Morehead Planetarium in Chapel Hill through Jan uary 9. The Bentonville Battleground Christmas will continue through December 27 in Newton Grove. The historic Harper House on the site of the Bentonville Battleground offers guided tours including explanations of the ornaments and tra ditions of Christmas. Happy Holidays.
