Presented the Distinguished Service Award was Dennis Kirby of Kenansville. Smith Selected For Membership Kelly Thomas Smith of Warsaw, a Peace Collge sophomore, has been seleced to membership in Who's Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges. Kelly is one of 10 students selected by the faculty and administration of Peace to be in Who's Who. Her bio graphy will be in the 1984 edition among those of a 1 select group from about 1 1,300 education institutions 1 in all 50 states and several ' foreign countries. Kelly is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A1 Smith of Warsaw. At Peace, Kelly is a member of Phi Theta Kappa academic honorary, Sigma Delta Mu Spanish honorary. Daughters and Grand daughters Club and Bible Study. She was president of the freshman class, presi dent of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and vice president of the Student Government. Duplin Red Cross Chapter Semi-Annual Report According to Mrs. N.B. Bonev. secretary of the Duplin Red Cross Chapter, on TJec. /, 1983, the chapter sent the following articles to Camp LeJeune by Mrs. Brenda Chase of Chinquapin who works there in the field director's office: 20 lbs. of pecans in the shell, IS lbs. hard candy, 45 ball point pens, 124 paperback books. 88 magazines, 1 package of paper napkins, a roll of ribbon and one package of plastic bags. These were to help bring Christmas cheer to the patients in the U.S. Naval Hospital who could not go home for Christmas. Duplin Officials Capture Escapees State Department of Cor rections officials in Duplin County recaptured two es capted prisoners around S:45 a.m. Thursday after more than 13 hours of searching. Joey Tripp, 21, and Bobby Flake, 19, were found cotping out of woods on N.C. Ill about 10 miles north of the State Prison Unit 4125 south of Kenansville. said prison Superintendent L.W. Parker. Parker said one of 10 people assigned to the search found the prisoners while patrolling highways. Flake and Tripp jumped the fence at the minimum-security prison around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday. Tripp was admitted to the prison last month and was serving an 18-month sen tence for assault with a deadly weapon and for breaking and entering and larceny. Flake, also admitted last month, was serving a 4-year sentence for breaking and entering and larceny.
