Contribute To Quinn Fund
The students of Mrs. Rhodes and Mrs. Lee'* class presented $115 to Mrs.
Alice Worthington to help cover some of the expense of the Ashley Quinn
Benefit "Color Me Beautiful" which was held at The Country Squire last
Thursday. These boys and girls wanted to do something for the Quinn family
so they made cupcakes, candy, cookies, brownies and cool ade and sold it at
recess at West Duplin Academy. This was their way of putting into practice
what they had learned in the Bible story of Dorcus and their way of saying we
care and we love you. Pictured, left to right: Mrs. Alice Worthington, Sharon
Kennedy, Cathy Carter, Allen Tyndall, David Wallace, Michael Casteen,
Grey Casteen. Second row, Danny Brock, Chris Henry, Susan Purdee, Sandy
Hinson, Becky Kennedy, Melissa Wells, Charles Weaver, Chris Whaley.
Third row, Mrs. Tamra Rhodes and Mrs. Catherine Lee.

Boy Scouts Celebrate Anniversary
"None of this would be possible
without the adult volunteers who
give their time so unselfishly. There
are more than 1.000 volunteers
working with 3,600 youth in the
Tuscarora Council's four-county
area." said Pete Petras, district
?*ecutive, of Clinton.
Anniversary Week activities got
jnderway Feb. 5 with Scout Sunday.
Various activities for the Week were
planned within all four districts, with
Scout Sabbath Services to conclude
the week on Feb. 11.
"We really want to pay tribute to
our voluntters, but we also want to
honor the people who support them
such as employers and spouses."
Tetras said. "After all, volunteers do
sacrifice time away from home and
work to be of service to Scouts and
Explorers."
An estimated 125 Tiger Cubs,
1,665 Cub Scouts and 1,460 Boy
Scouts are expected to participate.
The national theme for 1984 is
"Catch the Scounting Spirit."
The Tuscarora Council of Boy
Scouts joins the other 400 councils
Feb. 5-11 in observing the Boy
Scounts 74th anniversary. The
Council has been administering Boy
Scouts of America programs in the
area with the help of local volunteers
for 65 years. "This year's week-Ion^ J
observance is dedicated to the
untiring efforts of those volunters,
said Petras.
"We are a volunteer-based
organization," said Ed Hardister,
council executive. "Since it was
organized in 1910, the Boy Scounts
of America has dedicated itself to
providing an educational program
for boys and young adults that build
character, trains them in responsible, -
citizenship and develops personal
fitness."
