Spring Comes To N.C.
The fourth annual N.C. Home and
Garden Show will be held Feb. 25 -
March 4 at the Raleigh Civic Center.
According to show organizers, this
year's show will present many new
and special features to the home and
garden show audience including a
more pronounced focus on horti
culture.
"Dancing Waters," a visual
wonder of dancing colorful jet
streams shooting 40 feet in the air,
all syncronized with popular and
beautiful music, will highlight the
nine-day show with hourly per?
formances.
The most important ingredient in
the Home and Garden Show's overall
image is the thousands of blooming
plants, flowers, shrubs and trees
that noted horticulturist Hugh Van
and Raleigh's Parks and Recreation
department coordinate into this
spectacular indoor landscape. Utili
zing their expertise in the area of
horticulture, tulips, daffodils,
azaleas, peach and pear trees,
dogwoods and a massive variety of
favorite springtime plants are pre
pated for bloom before their season,
creating a most unusual and spec
tacular springtime atmosphere in the
Raleigh Civic Center Complex.
A very special attraction at this
year's show will be the two-story
i
Timberpeg Home, featuring rugged
post and oeam construction, brick
paved floors and elegant furnishings
all handpicked and tailored for this
beautiful home. The timberpeg dis
play home will be fully constructed
inside the Civic Center.
The Homebuilders Association of
Raleigh/Wake County, have
designed a series of nine ultra
interior designer rooms for the show,
all created by some of the most
talented and successful interior de
signers in the area. Each of these
rooms will offer the audience a
chance to see the latest ideas and
trends in interior design tastefully
and creatively set, providing the
audience with the kind of ideas that
can be reproduced in any home.
Since early September, the
H.A.N.D.S garden clubs have been
planning and organizing the seven
garden club competitions held each
year at the N.C. Home and Garden
Show. All seven categories will be
created with new themes in mind,
which will make the judging very
difficult but very exciting to watch.
Come judge for yourself!
Without a doubt, the most exciting
feature of this year's show is the
Cedardale Log Home Giveaway.
Sponsored by Durham Life Broad
casting and its fine stations,
WPTF-AM, WPTF-TV and WQDR
FM, some lucky person will draw the
only key that unlocks the door to this
fabulous 1,000 square foot post and
beam cedar log home. Durham Life
Broadcasting will qualify 30 finalists
from a daily drawing and give this
beautiful home away on the last day
of the show.
Always well attended, the N.C.
Home and Garden Show has es
tablished itself as a harbringer of
spring to the thousands of people
who attend the show each year,
eager to leave the winter cold behind
and enjoy the visual anticipation of
spring, all beautifully created inside
Raleigh Civic Center.

Feeder & Stocker Calves Meeting
Beef continues to be one of
America's favorite meats. One of the
important steps to get that T-bone to
the table is feeding the calf after
weaning to the feed lot.
^ "To assist beef producers in that
step, the Duplin County Agricultural
Extension Service is conducting a
meeting on managing feeder and
stocker calves on Feb. 28 at 6:30 at
the Agricultural Building in Kenans
ville," said Keith J. Hairr, assistant
agricultural extension agent.
Dr. Roger Crickenberger,
extension beef specialist, will be the
keynote speaker. All producers and
interested persons are invited to
attend. Call 296-1998 for more in
formation.
