DCAC FUND DRIVE OFFICIALLY OPENED "With the mailing of our 1984 brochure this week, our annual fund drive will officially begin," stated Merle Creech, executive director of the Duplin County Arts Council. The countywide effort will have the theme "Among the People'.' and i will be conducted in schools and communities through the end of February and the entire month of March. Community residents will be working with the council's 16 member Board of Directors in their respective areas. Rep. "Among the People" was selected * * because, according to Creech, that is * ? where the Arts Council works. "We take our programs to our people. . .to ' schools, recreation centers, clubs, ; > libraries and special happenings. We ; ? know that among the people is where * the arts help us celebrate and generate creative magic moments V that express what we love most ? about our land, our people, and our lives together." Creech continued, "The Duplin J _ County Arts Council needs your help and efforts. Your contributions are I used for.programming and bringing * creative and life-filling events to our county's children, senior citizens, workers, artists, art-lovers ? to all of us. Among the people is where the * arts take form and it is also where your help will be appreciated, for which we thank vou very much." The DCAC is that organization which seeks to make the arts visible and vital and full of life in the county. It began in 197S as a non-profit, | tax-exempt corporation. Many Other Items Open EVC17 Day I After 4:30 t BUCCANEER BABE East Carolina Head Football Coach Ed Emery was presented a plaque by Lee Ann Costin in appreciation for one of the most successful football seasons in the school's history. Lee Ann, a member of the Buccaneer Babes, works throughout the year hosting football prospects visiting the ECU campus. Each Babe is assigned to a member of the coaching staff and works closely with the prospect and parents familiarizing them with the ECU football program, campus life and academic affairs. Coach Emery is considered one of the top coaches in the country. Lee Ann is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Costin of Warsaw. STUDENTS RATED AT FESTIVAL The following students received the designated ratings at the N.C. Solo-Ensemble Festival held at Pembroke State University on Feb. New Jobs Program At Extended Day School The Duplin County Extended Day School is now offering a new jobs program. The program, called Job Training Partnership Act, replaces CETA, which was the old jobs platform for disadvantaged youths and adults. As an additional incentive some students also qualify the employers for the targeted jobs tax credit which allows substantial tax credits for hiring disadvantaged students. There are presently several un filled slots in the program for any eligible school dropouts. Persons interested in either the JTPA pro gram or Extended Day School in general, should contact W.T.
