The newspaper places emphasis on the writing program. TALENT ASSESSMENT PROGRAM P This non-discriminatory assessment battery is composed of ten action instruments designed to measure the innate characteristics applicable to work in trade, industrial, technical and profession technical lines, whether skilled or non-skilled. All eighth graders at B.F. Grady Schocl are taking this test. They will be given the test again as twelfth graders and the scores compared. The night was filled with 24 acts ranging from piano selections and group skits to playing the violin. The two top honors go to Celeste Jenkins of the Silverspurs 4-H Club and Amy Bullock of the Branchwood 4-H Club. These two will perform at 4-H District Activity Day in June, ac cording to Howard F. Scott, Exten sion Agent, 4-H. Four-H'ers who performed a selection on the piano were Andy Invett. Melissa Daughetv, Annette Harper, Amanda Speight, Debra Lovett, Sandra Deaver, Susan Cauley, Meredith Craig, Kate Cauley and Nicole Granger. The Falling Creek 4-H Club did a melody of "Singing in the Rain." Members performing were Kim Tilghman, Jeannie Stallings. Mary Hope Stallings, Jeannie Beard and Daniel Beard. Branchwood 4-H Club did a group skit on TV commercials. Members participating were Doug Craig, Jr., Taffy Repass, Jodie West, Debbie Wade, Missy Hill, Megan Wyatt, Charmaine Jewell, Meredith Craig, Karen Sutton and Amy Bullock. The Silverspurs 4-H Club did a skit entitled "Joy to the World With Stars." Members included Adrienne Classen, Leigh Pate, Ann Pate, Stephanie Collias, Celeste and Mike Jenkins and Cathy Waller. Four-H'ers who performed a sing ing number were Jermaine Sutton. Regina Smith, Michelle Penuel and Tracey Britt. Adrienne Classen per formed a classical guitar selection. Leigh Cauley and Miranda Hill did a violin selection. Susan Cauley did a gymnastics routine. Charmaine HORSE BOWL CONTEST Lenoir County 4-H hosted the Eastern Regional 4-H Horse Quiz Bowl contest on Feb. 18. At this contest, 4-H'ers were quizzed on their knowledge about horse-related topics such as history, breeds, genetics, riding styles, etc. This contest gives the 4-H'er who does not have a horse the opportunity to participate in a 4-H horse-related contest, according to Howard F. Scott, Extension agent, 4-H. There are three regional contests across the state that teams compete in for the honor to represent their region and county in the State 4-H Horse Bowl contest in Raleigh March 10th. Lenoir County has four team members from the Beaver Creek 4-H Club that received the honor to represent Lenoir County 4-H in the state contest. They are Barbara Ornvond, Becky Liles, Erin Tyndall and Patrick Colie. There were 30 teams at the contest in Kinston representing 24 counties from eastern North Carolina. Albertson Water Signup The Albertson water commission is pleased to announce the passing of the bond referendum held on Jan. 10 for the proposed water system for the Albertson Township. Present plans are for construction to begin in late spring. All persons interested in signing up for the water system should contact Ann Herring at 568-3989 no later than March 15. 19C4. The importance of meeting this deadline is because thereafter the sign-up fee will much greater. The commission wishes to thank everyone for their support. OBSERVE MUSIC WEEK Music In Our Schools Week will be osbserved March 5-11. The theme, "Music is a Sharing Experience," will be communicated at Warsaw and Kenansville Elementary schools in the following ways: Six graders will make and display instruments. Kindergarten through third grade will sing and play percussion instru ments. In addition, LaVone Hicks, general music teacher, extends an invitation to all parents to visit music classes at any time during the week. She is at Warsaw Elementary on Monday, GOSPEL MUSIC The Lesters from St. Louis, MO, will be singing at the 11 a.m. service on Sunday, March 11 at Christian Chapel Free Will Baptist Church. This family began in gospel music more than 50 years ago and have traveled over the U.S., Canada and overseas. "Ain't God Good," their first nationally acclaimed hit, was rated in the Top 40 in Gospel music for over 17 months and was chosen as one of the Top 50 songs in the nation. The pastor and congregation of the church welcome the public for this event. Wednesday and Friday and at Kenansville Elementary on Tuesday and Thursday. Jewell did a dance routine and Billy Small and Lisa Whaley did a drama skit. The judges were Susan Jones and Cindy Rouse. Stuart Stroud was MC for the night.
