Fred-Baggett. Baggett addressed the Duplin County
members at a luncheon at the Rose Hill Restaurant
adviping them of new legislation and expected
legislation in the next session of the North Carolina
Legislature. Ruth Quinn, mayor of Magnolia, was
moved up to League president from vice-president
when former president Joe Daniels of Calypso moved
out of Duplin County. Arnold Duncan, a town board
member of Wallace, was voted in as the new

Academy Warriors ended their
regular season with a 4-7 overall
record and a 4-3 conference record.
Their.final regular season game was
a tough win over the Berean Bull
dogs;;
March 2-3 their conference tour
nament began with the Warriors
14-3) seeded second to the Temple
TigeCs (8-0) Rockingham, the hosts
of the tournament, a double elimina
tion type.,
Thfc first round proved successful
for the Warriors as they dominated
Whitiville 49-28. Top scorers were
Johnny Taylor and Robert Wallace
with J2 and 13 respectively. Other
contributors were Bud Bradshaw
with ?, Steve Bradshaw with 4 and
Chasten Wallace with 2 points.
In (fie second round, the Warriors
nipped the Berean Bulldogs 34-31. In
the final seconds Chasten Wallace
secuifed the game by contributing
two pressure free throws. High
scorers were Robert Wallace with IS,
Johnny Taylor, 10, and Chasten
Wall|ce, 4 points,
The semifinal round was between
the Warriors and top-seeded Temple
ugers. i nis provea 10 oe a nara
fought contest with the Warriors on
top 53-47. Again, Robert Wallace
and Johnny Taylor led the way with
21 points each. Chasten Wallace and
Steve Bradshaw each had 4 points
and Bud Bradshaw had 3.
While the Warriors awaited the
final round, the Temple Tigers and
the Berean Bulldogs fought for a
chance for first place. The Berean
Bulldogs won in an overtime effort.
Again the Warriors met the
Bulldogs, this time in the final
round. This was a nip-and-tuck game
with the winner determined with one
second on the clock. The score was
tied at 33-33 when Robert Wallace
was fouled. He stepped to the line
with a bonus situation and made
both to end the game with the
Warriors the tournament champs,
35-33.
Top point earners for the game
were Robert Wallace and Johnny
Taylor with 15 and 14 points respec?
tively. Steve Bradshaw followed with
4 points and Bud Bradshaw with 2.
The Warriors were to travel to
Rockingham March 9 and 10 for the
state tournament.
