H84 f Kelly Farrior House At the future site of the Cowan Museum and the Duplin Arts Council, workmen are putting the finishing touches on the exterior of the house this week. The interior is hoped to be completed by this summer and the museum artifacts moved in. Some of the inner walls must be moved or eliminated to house the array of tools and memorabilia of the past in the Cowan collection. The house is located near Liberty Hall and plans now are to construct or move in some out buildings such as would be found around an old plantation. The spring or summer of the year a Plantation Day (or Week) is in the making. This will bring in craftsmen to demonstrate how things were done in the early 1900's or late 1800s. All the details are not yet complete. North Duplin 1 Goes To Regional Quiz Bowl The District 7 Quiz Bowl featuring the eight high school teams from the . SENC region will be held on Satur day, March 17 at 1 p.m. at the Southeastern Community College auditorium. The event will be organized and hosted by the Columbus County Public Library in I Whiteville. " Duplin County will be represented by North Duplin High School. Parrish, associate extension agent, 4-H in Lenoir County, Lenoir County received two first plpce awards at the Area 4-H Favorite Food Show on |k March 3. The event, which was held in Clinton, included the county winners from Sampson, Greene, Duplin, Wayne and Lenoir counties. Cathy Waller, a 4-H'er from the Silverspurs 4-H Club, received first place in the senior dairy foods category and Michelle Aldridge, a member of Southwood Cloverleaf 4-H Club, placed first in the senior meat division. Other county participants were Andy Lovett, Sandhill Sandfiddlers; I Jeannie Beard, Falling Creek; Karen Sutton, Branchwood; Daniel Beard, Falling Creek; Regie Parker, South west Rockets; and Martha Ann Daughety, Southwood Cloverleaf. The winning recipes for Cathy and Michelle are as follows: CREAM CHEESE CAKE Crust Mix: 1 c. graham cracker crumbs, % tsp. cinnamon, 1 Tbs. sugar, and 2 Tbs. margarine. Pack firmly in k bottom of spring form pan. Filling 5 pkgs. 8-oz. cream cheese 3 Tbs. plain flour 2 egg yolks 1 V? c. sugar 5 eggs V< cup milk Mix cream cheese in mixer; beat in eggs one at a time. Add sugar, \egg yolks, flour and milk. Blend until smooth. Pour over crust. Bake 10 x minutes at 475 degrees. Then turn r oven to 200. Bake for one hour. Turn off and let cake cool in oven for one hour. Top with sour cream and cherry pie filling. Cathy Waller 4C Silverspurs 4-H Club SWEET-SOUR MEATBALLS 1 lb. round, gYound 1 c soft breadcrumbs 1 Tbs. chopped onions 1 egg, beaten Vi tsp. salt q 1/4 tsp. pepper di 1 Tbs. butter 1 Vi Tbs. cornstarch ? Vi cup vinegar j?, Vi cup sugar 2 drops hot sauce Vi green pepper, diced 1 10-oz. can pineapple, drained 1 8-oz. can tomato sauce Combine the first six ingredients mixing well. Shape in small balls and brown in butter over medium heat. Drain. Place in baking dish. Com bine cornstarch, vinegar and sugar in saucepan. Cook over low heat stirring until clear. Stir in remaining ingredients Bake at 300 degrees for I minutes. Serves 4.
