The Kenansville Dixie Youth
Baseball League was recognized by
North Carolina State Dixie Youth
officials on March 24 for its out
standing advancement in meeting
the needs of rthe youth in its
community. The award was one of
three presented to individual leagues
in North Carolina by the state
organization. Carey Wrenn, presi
dent of the Kenansville League,
accepted the award during the state
meeting in Gastonia.
Prior to the 1982 baseball season,
the DYB shared the field at the
Kenansville Municipal Park with
area schools and the adult softball
program. Scheduling was a problem
and often times games could not be
completed.
In 1482, the Duplin Countv Board
of Education leased Turkey Field to
the town of Kenansville for the
purpose of youth recreation. A
temporary fence was installed and a
concession stand was built during
1482.
In August 1482, Kenansville
hosted the state tournament. The
profits were used to buy a portable
outfield chain link fence which could
be used at both ballfields.
In 1483, United Carolina Bank
donated a permanent chain link
fence that was installed at Turkey
Field. In addition, the DYB board
m
purchased two seta of bleachers that
are now installed. In 1984, dugout
tops have been made and other
