Farmers To
Report Rental
Payments
Duplin County farmers are re
minded that they are supposed to
report certain rental payments to the
Internal Revenue Service. J. Michael
Moore. Duplin County associate
agricultural extension agent, said
payments of more than $600 should
be reported to the IRS on Form
1099-MISC.
Money paid for the rent of tobacco
quota is an example of the payment
which should be reported. Other
reportable payments might be for
such things as land rental, contract
labor and custom harvesting.
Along with reporting the amount
paid, the payer is supposed to
provide IRS with the name of the
person receiving the money and his
or her tax identification number.
Farmers having questions about
this requirement can call IRS toll free
at 1-800-424-1040 for further infor
mation.

Travels To
Hobbton In
Top ECC Game
Tiger Field: James Kenan out
fought and really beat the Dark
Horses in every department Friday 1
night except the "W" column.
Coach Billy Byrd's fighting Tigers
did themselves well in handing
Clinton all they wanted in a heart
breaking 10-7 loss Friday night in
Warsaw. Clinton's team, including
some cheerleaders, were really
happy when the final gun went off
because they knew the win belonged
to James Kenan and they were going
back home with the victory.
Byrd was well-pleased with his
team's performance and felt that
I hey deserved the win. "Sure we
made some mistakes, but we out
played them and my boys deserved
the win," Byrd said. "We have a
real good crowd and everyone
seemed to enjoy the game, and I'm
proud to be a part of that."
Coach Byrd expressed apprecia
tion to the Boosters Club and their
all-out support. The bathrooms have
added much to the program, Byrd
says. "I want to express my appre
ciation to the Booster Club, espe
cially Lonnie Benson, Mack Johnson,
Willie Steele, Charles Grady, Lyn
wood Ezzell and Ben Ellenberg,"
Byrd stated. Dennis Pope and the
Kenansville Correction did a super
job in construction, Byrd stated.
Defensive Coach John Barrow had
nothing but praises for the defensive
Tigers including Kelvin Morrisey,
Ron Bowden, Robert Graham,
Mickey Faison, Bennie Melvin,
David Sutton, Bruce Dixon and Tim
Hpoks. "We were prepared and I
think did an outstanding job con
taining the power running Horses,"
Barrow said.
The Tigers offensive attack was
led by running-back Mickey Faison
with 107 yards in 24 carries. Clin
ton's high-stepping Lennie Faison
had 91 yards in 19 attempts. Both
Faisons (no kin) are considered two
of the best in the East.
East Duplin again managed to ?_
give again as their arch-rival foe
from Richlands edged the Panthers
14-13 in another non-conference
game. East Duplin scored first on a
7-yard run after a fumble. The
Panthers scored again on a 51-yard
burst up the middle, but the Wild
cats came rolling back with under
four minutes to hand Coach Jean
Worthington his second straight loss
of the young season.
North Duplin's Don Pate scored
two touchdowns and rushed for 158
yards to lead the Rebels to a 24-0
victory over Charles B. Aycock
Friday night at Pikeville. North
Duplin's other scores came on runs
by Kelvin Herring and Chris Arm
wood.
Other East Central teams in action
included North Lenoir taking their
neighbors from South Lenoir 14-6.
Hobbton, the dark horse in the ECC,
shutout Erwin 14-0, Tar Heel beat
Union 26-12 and East Bladen took it
out on Lakewood 29-0 in another
non-conference outing.
The top club in the ECC, Coach
I
Jack Holly's Bulldogs of Wallace
Rose Hill, will be tested early in the
season as they travel to Hobbton
Friday night.
Support your team.
