THE FOLK COUNTY NEWS, TRYON, N. C. POLK COUNTY NEWS , v. and" " THE TRYON BEE Consolidated Nov. 27, 1915. . Publisher" Every Friday at TRYON POLK COUNTY NORTH CAROLINA The Land of the Sky Saiuda Office . "In Saluda Pharmacy Building. W. F. LITTLE, Managing Editor Entered as second-class matter April 28, 1 9 15, at Jhe post office at Tryon, North Jarolin., under the Act of March 3, 1879. SUBSCRIPTION KATES Payable In Adrancfe One Tear... ... ... ... J.. ...$1.00 VOL XXI NO. 33, FRIDAY DECEMBER 24, 1915. Here's hoping you all have a very merry Christmas. We ask old Santa Claus to be liberal with every child in Polk County. ; "Sunny Jim" up at Saluda, wants to know what has become of the old fashioned prophet who said German would be whipped in six months. Wonder what the Master would sa if he .were on earth today, of this horrible war? And they are called Christian nations, with one exception. In last weeks issue of The Literary- Digest there is an article on Winter Travel and Resorts. Under the heading, "Winter in Dixie", the following appears: "A few miles below AsheviUe is Tryon, the southern gateway to ihe "Sapphire Country," by which name also this delightful country is known Tryon too has excellent hotels and a salubrious climate.' GRAB THE DOLLAR I had the task of setting up a mechanical toy, self propelled, call ed an "Irish Mail", it is made in Ohio and comes knocked, down Everythingr went well until the nrVia1 14. "CWO WOW AJ gU JLl tUU 1 L WiU) foind that the holes punched in the axle were left with a heavy bur re quiring a file to dress the bur be fore the wheels could be put. on. Two bolts were . unfastened and a frame support fell off. The toy is well made and ingenious in it's op eration but the hap-hazard way it is. sent out is a "knocker" and is characteristic of the Am erican m eth od of doing things. ' I set up a me chanical toy made by a foreign mak er a few years ago and marveled at the simplicity and the foresight oi the manufacturer. Everthing was there and the proper tools, in the box. It was a pleasure to set it up. Before the Ohio tdy could be assem bled it was neccesary to get took and finish the work left undone at the factory. It seems that our only aim is to "grab the dollar," rather than how well can the thing be done. "Breaking up a Cold" This is the open season for colds. Nearly half the people you meet have already had at least one cold this fall and winter.- Others will Boon follow suit. But what can the unfortunate victim do about it? That is the question. There is no royal road to recovery, but here are some "first aid", sug gestions that will usually help a lot First of all, don't let your cold "get the jump on you." "Nip it in the bud" by beginning heroic treat ment at once. At the very first in dication of headache, feverishness, sniffles or running nose, especially if you have bene indiscrete or laid yourself to a cold, secure free and easy bowel movement. If contsipa tion or over eating has been a pro bable factor in bringing; i on the cold, a warm enema, followed immediately by a cold enema, will usually help, particularly if supplemented by a lax ative of some kind. -Next,, take a good, hot foot bath. Soak the feet and legs nearly up to the knees In water as hot as can be borne for twenty to thirty minuis. bo this in a warm room. In the meantime, keep well wrapped in warm blankets, Two or three glasses of hot lemonade should also be drunk, and the pa tient Placed in a warm bed in an airy room for at least a day, but in no way exposed to drafts. One or two meals should be skipped and the diet made to consist largely of fruits and vegetables. Avoid whiskey, beavy doses of quinine and patent m edicines. They usually contain coal tar. products, and the body has trouble enough at such a time with out adding these. : Finally, while taking the cold treat ment Is one of the best times to make de-'P-seated resolutions to a void such things in the future by pro per living.-State Board of Health- FOR SALE PIGS Tamworth, Berkshire and Cross Breed at $3.50 up, ANGORA GOATS Registered, $1500, Grade Does $4.00, PIGEONS x Carneaux 50 cents. - i RED POLL BULL Matured $100.
