Out of all this talk for the develop ment for a greater Polk County it is apparent that the first thing to be done is to get a system of good roads. Without good roads we will riot get very far. Our neighbor counties re alized this some time ago. Buncombe and Henderson have made a good start , by building some permanent roads and they plan to continue the good work." Polk County -must wake up to the situation and adopt a com prehensive system and then get started in this -grea movement. The Saluda-Tryon Highway will sooon be reconstructed and by State and Fed eral aid will be kept in good repair. The Tryon-Lynn road is also assured and will be maintained in . the same way. It is very important that va permanent road be constructed to the Rutherford line by the way of Co lumbus and Mill Spring. Permanent cross roads would soon follow. Why sit We idly by and permit our neigh bors to outstrip us?. Instead of be ing in the ditch the ox is in the mud. Will our officers get busy on this big proposition and start something ? There has been enabling laws passed at Raleigh whereby we can get State and Fedral aid for both constructing and maintaining good roads. .
