Lynn School broke, all records the first week. The three teachers were so crowded that a fourth teacher has been employed. The enrollment for the first week was 133 and the aver age attendance for the week was 125 comparing this with the first week of last year shows an increase of about 300 per cent this is almost entirely of pupils under 17 years of age. Many of the older ones express the desire to attend but owing to cir cumstances are unable to do so. The teachers have agreed to open an evening school and have an enrollment of 20 who are on the school censes. Prof. William Hume of Saluda, Polk County welfare officer was present and made an interesting talk to the pupils concerning the school and com munity spirit, he stated very cleany that he would enforce the attendance law. Mondays enrollment of the two schols which is only the 6th day of the school session reached a total of 156 and as we have 19 most of whom are on the skirts of the district 4 and 5 miles away who are attending school that are more, our real enrollment out of a census of 229 is 175, or 76 per cent. Is there any school in the county ahead of us? We are of the opinion there is not. JWe recall the fact that last, spring we carried a lo cal tax election by a unanimous vote Mr. Sims had bttt r dieam hij of last week over again and see if he can dream a little of what is happen ing at Lynn. He need not dream 20 years ahead to see results in Lynn, just dream about five, years ahead and see what happens. W. F. SWANN. APPLICATION FOR PARDON. OF BILL NELON. Application will be made to the Governor of North Carolina for the pardon of Bill Nelon, convicted at the September term, 1916, of the Su perior Court of Polk county, for the crime of murder, and sentenced to penitentiary for a term of fifteen years.
