A project under the federal aid road
act, 'filed with the bureau , of public
roads, United State9 department - of
agriculture, which will undoubtedly
hold the record for length and cost for
some time to come, is of unusual In
terest aside from its great length and
cost. It contemplates, after the lapse
of nearly a century, the completion of
the Old National road, extending from
the Potomac to the Mississippi, which
already has been largely improved aa I
far west as the Indiana line. rThe: Illi
nois improvement will extend from
East St Louis across the state to the
Indiana line, traversing SL ClairMad
Ison, Bond, Fayette, Effingham, Cum
berland and Clark counties. -

about $30,000 per mile. The proposed
improvement Includes also the con
struction of 40 bridge structures, of

been presented to the Board of Coun
ty , Commissioners of Polk County,
signed by twenty-five per cent of the
Qualified voters of the county, for
order of an election to ascertain the
will of the voters as to whether bonds
of the county shall be issued and sold
for the purpose of building and equip-
ing.a County Home for the aged and

Michigan legislature for the encour
agement of the planting of fruit and
nut-bearing trees along, the highways,
of that state. Stock is to be distrib

ricultural college to local officials and
private individuals who will set it out,
under the supervision of the state
highway commission.
