McDowell went to FJorest City, N. C., Wednesday to attend the W. M.' U. Annual meeting. They report a very good and interesting session. Mr. John Purser, of Spartanburg, S. C., was among the old friends at Green's Creek Sunday. Mr. Ralph Shields made a business trip to Spartanburg, & C., Saturday, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Swain ot L,andrum, S. C. visited relatives here one day last week. Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Jackson and children spent Mpnday visiting Mrs. Elizabeth Jackson near Chesnee, S. C. Work on the new parsonage has begun, that is preparing lumber etc., and we hope the work will proceed to a rapid completion. There will be baptizing at the Baptist church Sunday afternoon, September the fifth. Preaching services from this time on will be regularly every first Sunday afternoon, each third Sunday morning, and Saturday afternoon before each third Sunday. Everybody in the community is cordially Invited to attend. We also extend an invitation to all to attend Sunday School each Sunday at 10 a. m. a laramouiu riciure, me screen version of "The Son of His Faher" by Harold Bell Wright, was much enjoyed at the school auditorium Saturday night. We are sorry a greater number did not attend ithis show which was said to be quite well worth what It cost. A Home Demonstration Party was given at the home of Mrs. Ellis Hines, R. 4, Campobello, S. C., last Friday afternoon. The object of the party was to demonstrate the various ways of serving light refreshments attractively. These refreshments, which were prepared by the women and served by the girls, consisted of cake stars with fruit centers, salted almonds, and grape punch. Misses Minnie Jones and Jenle Barnett furnished string music. Those present were: Mrs. Addie L. Giles, Mrs. J. T. Harris, Mrs. J G. Swain* Mrs. M. J. Johnson, Mrs. W. J. Isbell, Mrs S. The party was enjoyed by all, and was quite successful from every point of view. We are now having beautiful weather. The reecnt rains have caused a marked improvement in the ap pearance of almost all crops, but more especially the fruit crop, which has been abundant this year. We presume most of our thrifty house wives have their pantries well stocked with dried and canned fruits, preserves and jellies.
