THURSDAY, SEPT. 23, 1926 Colored church MEETING The. fifth-sixth annua meeting of the North Carolina Conference of Congregationa Churches, Negro, will be helc in Hayward church, Monoure Wednesday to Sunday, Septem ber 22 to 26. The Conference was organized 1870. The general theme cf the meeting is, "The Life of the CfTtirch in the Community.' Speakers will include Dear William H. Holloway of Joseph F. Brick Argicultural, Indus trial and Normal School Bricks and .Mrs. Charlotte Hawkins Brown, founder and principal -of Palmer Memorial Institute, Sedalia. The annual sermon will be preached on Wednesday night, September 22, by Rev. A. F. Elmes of Wilmington. McRae of Greensboro, at night. The Nortlh Carolina Conference has fifty-five churches with a total membership of 3.387. The Sunday school enrollment is 2,205. The churches reported raising $15,612 last year for local expenses 503 for missions and other benevolences. The total value of tthe church property is $210.240. The annual salary of the pastors is $655. In addition to salary, over a third of the church provide a parsonage. Rev. Henry VValden of High Point, is moderator of the Conference , and Rev. A. t.. BOY SCOUT NEWS I ' J Troops in Polk County have I certainly gotten the Scout spirit ' amkjiave done wonderful work [' and progress in organization. * A troop in Tryon is now under organization with Rev. S. W. , Dendy as Scoutmaster and Prof J Schilletter as Assistant Scouti master. The members of tlie troop have shown particular interest and no doubt in^the near future a wonderful I troop will be recognized at Saluda. | The troop at Columbus have I already held their organization meeting and are now meeting ^ every Friday night at eight >'clock. Rev. Stroup is serving as Scoutmaster and Mr. Herman Walker is the Assistant Scoutmaster. Friday night one of the most enthusiastic meetings was held with about l'orty boys present. Applications fbr membership was accepted and the full quota of eighteen boys were received. In Six week3 six additional applications wilF he accepted and in another six weeks another six will be accepted. A full trbop will be the future for the Columbus boys. Pep was the main feature of this first meeting. A real game was played with everybody taking part- and showing that real Scout enthusiasm and pep. It will not be long before Mill Springs will be having a Scout Troop to brag on. The >; hoys have shown much inter| est in organizing a troop.
