For several years he was connected with the Underwood Typewriter Company, but returned to Tryon around the year 1922, starting the Ice Plant, and Laundry on a small scale. By very successful and efficient management he built up a very satisfactory business. The new laundry which was connected with it, and a part of the Company having recently been sold to Mr. Rector of Virginia. Crops of corn and sweet Potatoes are just fine after all the worrying and believing there sure would be no way for another year but we would perish. Miss Bessie Helton left Monday for Asheville normal school. Dewitt Helton who has been in the hospital has returned home and getting along fine. Born to Mr. John and Mrs. Daisy Cash a fine^girl. Wilburn Gibbs Odel Dimsdale, T. G. Taylor, John Taylor and R. P. and Curtiss Brt)wn left Saturday last foi Wilmington. N. C., where they have a position with engineers. Several of our young people attended the singing at Silver Creek Sunday. Mr. General Jones and wife passed through this section Monday. Mr. Ted Bradiey was a caller at King Stepps Sunday p. m. Mrs. J. M. McGuin was seriously hurt by and old cow horning her one day last week. Miss Myrtle Stepp is visiting her sister Mrs.?F. C. Coggins at Mill Springs. / The men are getting along fine with the school house work it sure is beginning to look like we are going to have school some good old day not far away. Kuykendall and wife attended the baptizing at Lynn Sunday. Floyd Pack is still at the hospital but much improved and is expected home in a' week. Rev, S. A. Brascomb have returned for a short visit to their son and - daughter-inlaw. Mr. and Mrs. George Branscomb, of Roanoke, Va. On of our home boys, Ms, Lemuel Home, who has spent the last several years working and studying in Northern cities, is visiting at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Rome Home. Barnette and family. Mr. and Mrs. John M. Walker of Boiling Springs, N. C., accompanied by her son, Wistar> spent the week-end with her brother, Mr. W. S. Jackson and family, Mrs. Walker is well known and loved here, having lived here several years. In her girlhood she taught school in Polk, and adjacent counties, and is now teaching at Latimore, N. C., her husband Rev. John M. Walker being Principal of the _ _i 1 scnooi. j Green's Creek teachers attended he Teachers meeting at Columbus, N. C., Saturday. We are sorry for them to see our rough roads, but glad to see that they survived and made the teturn sofely. Mr. and (Mrs. L. White land family were the "afterpreaching" guests of Prof, and Mrs. W. J. Isabell and family. The family and friends of Mr. K. N. Hines gave him a Birhday dinner Sunday. This also, was "afer preaching," as most of our Sunday dinners, are for we pride ourselves on attending church. Mr. C. L. Rogers and daughter, Miss MiHie, attended the funeral of Mrs. Carrie Shields at Arrowwood Church, near Chesnee. S. Always fearless, and faithful to his truest, his death was a great shock to all true, lawabiding citizens, while grief for the loss of a loving husband is said to have hastened the death of his widow, and left six young children doubly or phaned. Besides the children Mrs. Shields leaves her parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. D. Smith, and two sisters Miss Bessie Smith, and Mrs. Cora McClure. All of Chesnee, S. C., A host of other relatives and friends also sorrow for the death of this good and sweet christian woman. TRYON ROUTE 1 To appreciate our national flower, "The Golden Rod" in ail its glory, just take a walk through the fields and woods. Many were enroute to Silver Creek to enjoy the all-day annual singing. Mr. Joe Melton an aged grand-father passed over the river Sunday morning at 6 o'clock, his body was placed in the cemetery at Silver Creek Creek. Mrs. Foster a tenant on Post Master Edwards farm is quite ill at this writing. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Edwards were down on the route Sunday afternoon, enjoying our Sept. days. Mr. Theo Edwards of Weaver College spent the week-end with home-folk. The W. M. S. meet at the home of Mrs. R. G. Hamilton. A large number of members present. The regular monthly program was carried out with addition social service'work added, of which we will hear of later, our social service work for quarter amounted to $28.25. Sandwiches, dough-nuts and coffee were served as refreshments. Go and enjoy the good Epworth League Program given every Sunday evening at 7:00 o'clock at the Methodist church of Mill Spring.
