Moth'a Amazing Growth
Nature presents many puzzles, and ;
while we often read about the curl- j
osltles of many of the larger unlrffals,
we are not so familiar with some of
the lebser-known "frcuks."
The great Increase in weight of animals
such as the elephant and hippopotamus
Is often recorded, but the
privet-hawk moth Increases Its weight
eleven thousand times In Its thirtytwo
days of feeding.
~ - * i... .....
Even mis is oeaien \ mt- i>v
anee of the gout moth, which Increases
Its original weight seventytw<rthousand
times, although It takes
three years to do so.
Some butterflies have no mouths
and take no food whatever during
their brief lives.
Amen in Very Truth
The little boy had a queer way of
pronouncing "Amen" at the end of
his prayers. It sounded like "Ahmln"
or "l'tn-ln." His nurse questioned
him about It. "Why don't you ;
say 'Amen'?" she a6ked. "That's the
proper way to pronounce It."
"No, It Isn't," he Insisted. "It's :
Tin-In,' and you know wbut it means,
don' you?"
"What does It mean?" asked nurse, i
"It means to tell Ood I'm in bed j
Don't you see, T'm-fn ?"
Fortunately, she was a very sym
pathetic uurse and she saw the little
fellow's reasoning at once, so he Wks i
permitted to continue saying "I'm in"
for "Amen."?Springfield I'nion.

PARIS STYLISTS INT
A CAPE, a cape, my kingdom for
a cape. Not. In precisely these
words do the French women of fashIon
say It, but they suit the action
to the word by ordering from their
couturitT.s a modest cape from their
tumn season to come. Just how successfully
these orders are being exeAted
by Paris stylists Is told In the
a<w>mpanylng picture.
That shirring be used In the development
of the rape to the right Is to
be expected, because shirring has become
the all absorbing pastime of the
fashlonist. It enters Into the malting
of our raiment nt the slightest opportunity.
Where once we tucked and
plaited we shirr these days. This
item in regard to shirring Is one to
hold In mind when planning one's autumn
apparel. As to this particular
cape In question It has the word
"Parisian" stamped Id every detail.
It is made of heaviest canton crepe.

and one of Its outstanding style-points
Is the fact that It is collared with a
contrasting color. A conclusive urgunient
In favor of Its usefulness is the
fact that it Is reversible.
Ultra-sniartness is written In every
phase of the costume shewn to the
left. That a generous circular cape
of plalded and striped kasha can be
one of the niftiest fashion exponents,
when It comes to fall wraps. Is a
truth attested In this model. This
is a cape which Invokes an urge to
possess. Not only does a scurf collar
give It extreme chic, but the fact
that It Is topped with a swagger vagabond
velours hat gives It even greater
prestige as strikingly bespeaking
smartest mode. Just a word about
the modish doth coat dress over which
i? i<> nnwd Street frocks of this
strictly tailored genre express un
mlstakable up-to-dateness.
