For example. North Carolina never been especially noted for tishinfu^yet the industry yielded $2,- gri 500,000 last year. And that was A ^ the commercial part of it alone, tfie catch in the sounds and rivers of the eastern part of the State. An additional income of $1,300,000 Is derived fro moil and fish scrap, and add'to this the money value of the fish in tko inland rivers and brooks and the, "sum would atract even more attention. The mountain streams of th? westem part of the State offer wonderful sport for the devotees of fly fishing. Bass and trout are both obtainable in the clear cold streams. In the lakes, bass are to be found Throughout Burke County there is excellent fishing, and in Buck Creek preserve miles of streams are wellstocked with trout. The French Broad Rirer, as It fjows through the Toxaway country of Transylvania [County, offers many picturesque opportunities. Blue Ridge Forest at Tryon, N. For two years have been stocked with thousands of trout from the State hatcheries, j.inj wil be ready for fishing in the spring. Forty miles of paths through tho (inorc than i!0,0u0 acres of primeval forest give access to these scores of streams. So from sea to mountains tho State off'-rs everything from the salt water giants, the shell fish and the oysters, to the speckled beuuties i under the wa;?rf:tlls thousand, of feel up on the mountain tops. I ITunder the new program of State | conservation tlie Fisheries Commission will protect all water life, give the oyster beds anj diamond back terrapin a chance to grow again, and producing from eggs the game fish for the mountain streams.
