LYNDON That western North Carolina is forging to the front as a res.ort land mor,. rapidly than any other section of America has been proven again at Lake Lanier, nestling at the foot of Hogback mountain at Tryon, N. C. A few short weeks ago the site of Lake Lanier was almost a wilder..nuc. Vim- nior? than 1,2000 home and villa sites have been sold on the property. The initial step in the development of Lake Lanier was made on March 19. 1925?when the Tryon chamber of commerce invited Mr. P. L. Wright, of Hendersonville, N. C.. to be their guest at a dinner i'1 Tryon On March 23 began the survey and about April 1st the actual campaign for selling Lake Lanier home sites was really started. In the meantime, contract was let for the construction of the dam, which created the lake. Engineering outfits started Jhe work of mapping out the property and soon a selling fr You ca The ye | On Lai II Tryons j j With th 11 pleted, rirnvom ^X V ' V V^iXl offers location bers of been b I . contem I many c J at reast Your vi complel ted thi The vi< from homesii in this Be sure - s* -m derful you in ! Now and choice sites were rupiui.r opened up, only to be sold within a j few days. Night and day work was ! ordered on the dam. The first [basin of the lake has rapidly filled ; ith water, a clear sheet of crystal 'with a dish of mountain blue. Iaike Lanier was named for Sidi m y Lanier, sweet singer of the Cha[ tahoochee, who found at Tryon sceI nie beauties that satisfied his sensitive and aesthetic soul. More than throe hundred varieties of mountain wild flowers bloom in | profusion around Tryon and the dis[ play of mountain laurel and rhododendron during the flowering season in this particular region is well : known to tourist and artist. Long a favorite haunt of famed artists, Tryon has attracted increasing huui dreds of tourists and sojourners ev' cry year. V fELOPMENT CO TRYON, N. C. COONTY J > Wondi summer resort but Its mild winter climate due to location Is one of the famed Carolina "Thermal Belts" has made it a favorite place for winter residences. These peculiar climatic conditions make outdoor activities an endless recreation the year around. A feature that is playing one of the most important parts In resort developments western Carolina is the fact that this region Is within 24 hours' of half the people of the United States. Through Pullman' service from the principal cities of Asheville, Tryon and Spartanburg, make these cities extremely accessible at alj times of the year. Railways offer low week-end rates to I those points. I Another factor In the development j of Carolina resorts and perhaps the mostimportant one is the (Jevelopment of Carolina's great state highway system, which has opened up this entire land to home people for week-end trips and summer vacations. Lake Lanier is directly on | a sate maintained scenic highway between Spartanburg and Asheville. Another North Carolina state highway leads into Lake Lanier from Ruthorfordton, b Golf has gone hand in hand with the real estate develpments in the Carolina mountains. Tryon has one of the sportiest golf courses on the continent, only a mile distant from Lake Lanier. This course is green the year 'roud and play is possible | practically 365 days each year. Tryon has been famed for many years for its grape culture. Tryon grapes are marketed just before the I main crop of New York and Penn[ sylvania grapes are placed on the j market. Tryon grapes bring top j prices and have a flavor that cannot be equalled any where in the U. S. A. Lake Lanier will soon be entirely 11 jiopment rly comous imlopment lusual Numes have y more ire yet se from 11 not be ^ inspecopment. . ifforded /l i ol the 11 parallel 11 country. I he won- I it await I IMPANY Inc. iCBl'EV EMEN r erful D( filled with water. The development 4" has all city conveniences with sensible restrictions. It is undoubtedly in one of the most beautifiil spots in the entire Blue Ridge , range. Along its seven miles of shore line drive, villas, and homes are beginning to spring up. Most of the property * ?"< ? I soj dhas been purcahsed Dy utuu- ? lina people who have been quick to * rfcalflze that the opportunity for | resort real estate is as great in the | Carolina mountains as it has ever | been in Florida or California. I Lake Lanier has been visited by immense numbers of people this summer. Several buses owned by the sales organizations bring their quotas of sightseers and visitors every day. Hundreds of automobiles bearing Florida liscence plates have been seen on the property. It is not an unusual scene to see two or three hundred peopie on the board walk at the temporary sales headquarters on the property. $n order to safeguard human life and to protect the developing company, the sales organization has been compelled to emplyo five life guards, as it has been impossibe to keep summer bathers out of the water until the three miles of bathing beaches are reaay. No vacation in western North Carolina next summer will be quite complete wihout a visit to Lake Lanier, situated in the midst of a picture land. Beautiful water falls, rugged mountains, lofty peaks, peaceful valleys , luring trails through mountain wilderness?all these are within 24 hours of at least 60,000,000 people and is a climate hardly matched in the world unless it be In sunny Itlay. That is why western North Carolina is forging to the front so rapidly as a resort and vacation land and the particular ^reason back of the magnitude and suoobss of Lake Lanier. In Trouble At a church fair at the candy counter an elderly lady was seen poking frantically under the table with her umbrella. A gallant young man tapped forward and, stooping to as slat her, asked what she had lost. She mumbled that she had dropped a piece of taffy she had been eating. t "Oh, never mind looking for that piece, madam," said the gallant young t man, "Til buy you a whole new bar." | "But," she further mumbled, "my 9 teeth are In it"?Everybody's Mags- ( line. 1 READ THE POLK CO.
