Teen Topics By Imogene Long Morehcad City High School Hi folks. Guess everybody heard about the Lions club's "Talent Show Finds" but I'll tell you just in case. In addition to the eleven contestants they had eight extra attractions which were, in some cases, as ?ood as the contestants. The Morehcad City Baptist Church choir sant; two very good selec tions, "I Found Him in M y Heart" and "Dust on the Prairie." Another good extra was little Curtis Guth rie from Broad Creek who sang, accompanied by Earl Lewis on the piano. Believe me, this boy will be another Eddie Arnold when he grows up! Captain Joe Rose was very much enjoyed as he played on his accordian, "Springtime in the Rockies,", "I Shall Not be Moved" and as an encore, "The Carnival Song." If anyone ever needs a good master of ceremonies just call on Mr. Joe Dcvonchik of WMBL. (Now for the contestants. I really believe the judges had a hard time deciding . on the thrpe winners but here ore their deci sions: 1st. prize Guy Smith. Jr., of Beiufort, who sang "Old Man Ri ver," just like Frankie too; 2nd. prize Ruth Webb Bailey of More head, who sang "Indian Love Call" and "Morning"; 3rd prize, More hcad City Girls Glee Club which sang "Will You Remember" and "O Divine Redeemer". In my opin ion though, the Beaufort Glee Club yfaa among the best talent there. For their first number thev chose a song which, thanks to Frankie. has become a preat hit, "You'll Never Walk Alone." In it Guy, Jr. sang n solo and. gracious land, can't Jthat boy sing. For their sec ond number 'they sang "Begin the Beguine" and a couple dressed in Spanish costume danced. This was about the best amateur talent I've ever seen. I certainly hope the Lions club' can sponsor another contest next year. Sunday morning the annual corn- DR. ALVAH L. HAMILTON. J3. Raleigh A 4-H Club sweet potato project I sponsored by the Henderson Cham ! ber of Commerce in Vance county 1 last year is proving beneficial for the 4 H boys and adult farmers alike, reports Hugh D. Barden, as sistant county agent for the State College Extension service. Boys cooperating in the project grew a potato crop from certified ! plants furnished by the Chamber of Commerce. This spring they bedded 135 bushels of potatoes, and they are now distributing plants to farmers of the county through the supply merchants of Henderson. Boys who are selling plants are j receiving a return of about $7 per bushel on their potatoes. Farm ers are glad to get plants which have been treated properly for di sease and they don't object to a little higher price for a superior product. The seed potatoes from which ! the plants were grown were graded for size and condition, and treated for disease.
