"How great is Thy Love, O, Father Divine, That we lose not our dearest and best, But find them again, with Thee safe at Home, In the mansions of Eternal Rest" Fraternally submitted, Lura Garner . Madge Jones Bernice Herbin The three day convention at At lantic Beach of North Carolina 36, National Association of Postmas ters, to a climax Friday night at the Ocean King hotel with n ban quet attended by an overnow crowd of over 150 postmasters and their families. Clifford C. Garner, superintendent, Div. no. 2, First Assistant's Bureau. Washington, V. C, was the principal speaker of the evening. Mr. Garner opened his talk with an expression of appreciation for the hospitality of Harold Webb of Morehead City, host postmaster, and others responsible for the suc cess of the convention. He then explored the results of the convention, and said, 'I hope that these mutual talks which we have had will help our department in Washington. We should all learn from these conventions." Garner paid tribute to many outstanding men in the postal field, including Postmaster-General J. M. Donaldson. "Hannegan, Wal ker, Farley, and so on down the line, were all fine gentlemen," he said, "but Postmaster-General Do naldson is the first to rise from the ranks of postal service to that office. He has been over 43 years of service from mail carrier to postmaster-general. First Assistant Burke has a comparable record." The speaker also stressed the im portance of courtesy on the part of postal employees. Said Garner, "Avoid delay, for the post office in general is blamed for local inef ficiencies." Garner advised the postmasters that Congress had been kind, but that the bureau of the budget had cut manv appropriations. He told them that if appropriations were inadequate, they should write to Washington. The banquet opened with an in vocation by the Rev. J. V, Axtell of Webb Memorial Presbyterian church, Morehead City. The toast master was Wilbur R. Dosher, of Wilmington. Garner was preceded by two other speakers, F. J. Scott, of Sears Roebuck, and Fergus Mc Ree, postmaster of Richmond. Mis. Ruth Webb Bailey, More head City, accompanied at the piano by her mother, Mrs. Norman Webb sang two numbers, "Lovely Spring" and "Where My Caravan Has Rested." The postmasters then sang as a group "My Wild Irish Rose" and "Let Me Call You Sweetheart. Pearl E. Llnville, secretary-trea surer of the North Carolina chap ter, presented efficiency awards, and D. Staton Inscoe of Raleigh, newly-elected president, was pre sented to the postmasters. In accepting his office, Inscoe stated, "I will accept responsibility as all of you postmasters accept responsibility' in handling the mails." . After awarding door prizes, the postmasters sang "Blessed Be the Ties That Bind," and the group was dismissed by Rev. Mr. Axtel Graham A. Barden, congressman from the third district, North Ca rolina, was scheduled to speak but was unable to attend. Olher new officers of the chap ter re W. C. Ormond, first vice president: W. S.
