Case to Recorder's Court
Charles Daniels, Jr., was ordered
to post $150 bond Monday in
Morehead City police court for his
appearance in recorder's court in
Beaufort a week from today to an
swer charges of drunk driivng an,d
driving without a license. "
Mayor George W. Dill made this
ruling after pointing out that his
court had no jurisdiction over the
case. Daniels was picked up by
city police after driving his ve
hicle Into a ditch. He told the
court yesterday that bis license
had been revoked last year.
Pete Forbes was ordered to ap
pear as a state witness in the case.
In another case, Harvey Horton,
Jr., of Morehead City, was fined
$15 for having improper lights and
brakes on his vehicle, causing a
minor wreck.
Hollywood Goes on Search
For 13-Year-Cld 4-H Girl
A Carteret County girl, 4-H club
member and under 13 years of age,
may, perhaps., be in the movies!
Mrs. Carrie Gillikin. home de
monstration agent, announced to
day that Hollywood is searching
for just a little girl to play the
lead in a 4-H short, "The Green
Promise."
The child will be selected from
thousands of snapshots sent from
all over the country. Pictures of
Carteret county girls should reach
Mrs. Gillikin no later than Tues
day. From these snapshots one
will be selected and forwarded to
Hollywood.

No officers have been obtained
as yet for the literary and art de
partment and the music depart
ment. They will probably be install
ed at a later date, Mrs. Sampson
said.
Presented to the club by Mrs.
Hilliard Eure, district president,
was a certificate of honor granted
by the State Federation of Wom
an's clubs. The certificate is in re
cognition of the club's accomplish
ments during the past year. The
club was rated 40 points above the
100 required.
Mrs. Eure. who attended the re
cent convention at Hendersonville
stated that Mrs. J. A. Gupton. state
president, also eomnlimented the
club on their youth conservation
work. Mrs. Gupton is Mrs. Phil
lips' aunt and is expected here as
a speaker at one of next season's
woman's club meetings.
The certificate of honor and the
club scrapbook, compiled hy Mrs.
George McNeill, will be placed in
the club rooms at the civic center.
On the music program Tuesday
night, presented by teenagers
were Lois Webb and Theresa
Wheelton who sang solos, and
Bnbby Hessee who played a piano
solo. Ann Darden Webb read a
paper, "Youth in Your Communi
ty." Members of the music depart

Fire Damages Residence
Of Lale D. B. Willis
The home of the late D. B. Wil
lis, 1510 Arendell street, was seri
ously damaged by fire Wednesday
evening when flames mysteriously
originated in two oil drums on the
side porch.
The alarm was turned in at 6:15
from box 35, the first alarm for
the fire department in more than
two weeks.
Two rooms on the east side of
the house were smoked and badly
damaged but firemen ventured no
estimate as to the cost in dollars
and cents.

Advocates School Buildings
Stating that North Carolina will
have a seventy-five million dollar
surplus at the end of the fiscal
year, Mr. Johnson advocated the
state's assuming the entire cost of
public education, specifying the
construction of., school buildings.
' He remarked that the next legis
lature should allocate twenty-five
million dollars for such construc
tion. In 1951, he pointed out, the
$115,000,000 borrowed by the state
to build roads, will be paid off. "It
is my belief," he continued, "that
