Burma and French Indo-China far south
on the Malay Peninsula, has a history that
reach w back to the sixth century when
the ancestors of the people who now in

Pilcairn Island's Teacher

(AP) Pitcairn Island's first
school teacher is having a head

to the British Colonial Service, left
New Zealand in March for Pit
cairn, via Suva, Fiji, to set up the
first school for the islanders. With
him went his wife and daughter.
They are still in Fiji. He wrote
a friend in Auckland:
"The overhauling of the ship is
causing delay. The loading of the
buildings, furniture and equipment
will take time. Then we have 3000
miles of difficult navigation, fol
lowed bv the headache of landing
everything on a dangerous beach,
lifting it no a 300 ft. cliff.. and
finding a school site where the
grade will not exceed one in six
on this precipitous island."
Moverley has three Indian build
ers from Fiji with him and la
bour for building the school will
be found on Pitcairn. The work
is expected to occupy several
months once the site is found.

Norfolk dredging company bid of
$29,784 to dredge a waterway con
necting Pamlico Sound and Beau
fort, for dredging Silver Lake har
bor and Rollinson channel. Gov
ernment estimate for the job was
$27,009.21.
