Business and Professional Women Enjoy Picnic The Business and Professional Woman's Club of Carteret County enjoyed a delightful ' picnic and marshmallow roast at Fort Macon on Wednesday afternoon at four o'clock. Thirty-one members were in at tendance with four guests from the Kinston Club. They were Mrs. Arthur T. Wilson, Mrs. Hardy, Mrs. Campbell and Mrs. Woolen. Mrs. Wilson, who is past state president of the club and the pre sent president of Kins ton's club gave na informal talk on the work of the Business and Professional Woman's Club and also a report on the state convention held at Bowl ing Rock last month. Upon arrival of the guests the hostesses served ice cream sodas with decorated block cake, mints and nuts. Bridge was played at eight tables with Mrs. Virginia Purifoy winning high score and Miss Do rothy Ilarrell, second high. Dainty white petunias and other summer flowers were at tractively arranged throughout the dub room. Smith Wins High at Bridge Club The Floating Bridge Club met with Mrs. Julius Nelson Tuesday afternoon at 1 o'clock. Guests were Mrs. Clyde Young and Mrs. Reginald Lewis. High score prize, a luncheon cloth, was won by Mrs. J. C. Smith and second 1iigh, a hostess set, went to Mrs. Will Howland. Tuesday Bridge Club Meets With Corelta Thompson The Tuesday evening bridge club met with Miss Coretta Thomp son at her home on Arendell Street at eight o'clock. Macy-Lewis Wedding Party Feted After Rehearsal On Thursdiiv, July 1, Mr. and Mrs. James Macy, Jr. were honor ed at a rehearsal party given by Miss Colleen King at the home of Mrs. Alfonso James. Mrs. James invited the guests to the dining romo, following a wel come by the hostess and her moth er, Mrs. Roland King. Bridal colors of green and white were used in the decorations. The re ficshment table was covered with a lace cloth, and was center ed with an arrangement of gladi oli 'oleander, and lace fern. Crys tal candelabra holding light tapers flanked either side of the cento pice. The tabic held trays of dain ty hois d'veuvres, cookies, mints, potato chips, deviled eggs, olives and pickles. Miss Carolyn Fulcher Honored at Tea Wednesday Miss Carolyn Fulcher, bride elect of next week, was honored at a' tea Wednesday afternoon from 3:30 to 5:00 at the Civic Center by Mrs. Kenneth Bradley and Miss Ruth Macy. Upon her arrival the honoree was presented a miniature nosegay of white bride's roses and a cold meat fork ill her chosen pat tern of silver. Mrs. W. L. Fulcher, motfter of the bride-elect, was pre sented a corsage of white carna tions. On the refreshment table, a min iature bride and groom stood be fore the crystal punch bowl, which was banked by a lovely arrange ment of lace fern and white dah lias. Cecil, chief machinist's mate, Navy has been returned to this country among 4,842 Americans who were killed in Italy during World War II. Cecil was the husband of Mrs. Julia Cecil who formerly worked on the base in Navy supply, and son-in-law of Mrs. W. F. Sholer, of Kinston and Cherry Point. Mrs. Cecil is now at Bardstown, Ky., her husband's home, where the body will be interred. She re cevied word that the body ,will arrive in the near future at Colum bus, 0., and from there it will be sent to Bardstown. The chief machinist's mate, who had a nine-year record of service in the Navy was stationed aboard the destroyer USS Shubrick. He was killed during the invasion of Sicily Aug. 4, 1943 Prior to going overseas he was stationed four years in Norfolk. I CMM Cecil was holder of thej Congressional Medal of Honor, and the Purple Heart. He will be buried with full military honors. Surviving besides his wife, are his mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Cecil, five brothers, Francis L., Samuel Kcnnett, George, Joseph, and Ivo, and two sisters, Theresa and Peg gy, al of Bardstown. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Goodwin Expedition Finds Fossils; Evolution Story Expected NAIROBI, Kenya (APj Aid in untangling the story of evolution for man and apes is ex pected to come from remains of fossil apes uncovered by the Uni versity of California expedition to Turkana province. Wendell Phil lips, head of the expedition, says the remains of the apes are among a, large number of fossils found. School Board Names Principal The local school board has an nounced the appointment of Ru pert Ainsley as principal of the Cherry Point school for the coming school year. Mr. Ainsley, who is married, is a native of this state, having been born in Creswell, N. C. He holds both a B. S. and M. A. degree and has a splendid record of accom plishment during his 23 years of teaching experience. He has taught sixth and seventh grades and been an elementary principal. For the past eleven years he has been principal of the Moyock high school. During the summer of 1945 he directed a boys' camp at Ridge crest and is extremely , interested in baseball and basketball. At the present time he is studying at East Carolina Teachers' college. , , in Greenville. The wading pools in the Project are to be destroyed and work on this project will start very soon. Tenants are asked to keep their children away from workmen and equipment while work is in pro gress. . These pools have been a menace to. health and safety due to lack of adequate supervision and when this cbndition was caUed to the attention of the Civic Organiza tion they recommended the disposi tion of the pools.
