Mr. Sam Thompson returned last week from Chapel Hill, where he attended summer school. Mrs. II. L. Jr., spent last Friday in Chanel Hill. Mr. and Mrs. W. P. Freeman left today for a ten-day trip to the western part of the state. Mrs. William I. Barts, of More head City, left yesterday for a visit with her parents, Capt. and Mrs. Willard Lewis, in Toledo, Ohio. Capt Lewis, whp is a native of Morehead City, is in charge of a private yacht, whose home port is Toledo. Dr. and Mrs. C. D. Childs and Dr. and Mrs. Loekhart, all of Dur ham, were the guests of Rev. and Mrs. L. A. Tilley last weekend. Mr. Jimmy Miller Visits Here Mr. Jimmy Miller visited friends here this week. Mrs. Iva Parnell and her son, Donald Miller, have returned from Durham, where Donald underwent an operation last week at Mac pherson's hospital. The Rev. and Mrs. Roberts Visit Relatives Here Rev. and Mrs. James Roberts of Washington, D. C, are visiting at the home of Mrs. Rufus Oglesby at Crab Point. Miss' Frances Pittman Home After Visiting Sister Miss Frances Pittman returned Thursday from a two week visit to Lake Charles, La., where she visit ed her sister, Mrs. Jack Styron. Mr. James H. Pou Bailey of Ra leigh was a weekend visitor here. Mrs. Bailey and the children are visiting Mrs. Bailey's mother, Mrs. Ed Pate of Laurinburg, at her beach cottage. Mrs. Clyde G. Willis returned last Friday after spending a week at Ocracoke with her mother, Mrs. Sally O'Neal. Mrs. Alton Scarboro of Penn's Grove, N. J., spent last Friday at the home of Mrs. George Howard. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Mizelle and family, of Charleston, S. C, are visiting relatives here. Mrs. Clifford Atkinson of Staten Island, N. Y., is visiting her daugh ter, Mrs. Berea Rice, here. Mrs. L. A. Tilley and daughter, Eloise, shopped in Raleigh Tues day. OBITUARIES Funeral Rites Conducted For CapL H. D. Goodwin Funeral services for Capt. Henry Davis Goodwin, 76, who died Satur day in the Morehead City Hospital, were held Tuesday afternoon at 3 o'clock in the First Methodist church. The Rev. Lester A. Tilley officiated. Interment was at Bay View ce metery. Honorary groups partici pating in the funeral services were the board of stewards of the First Methodist Church, Rotary, Ameri can Legion, Woodmen of the World, and . Masonic Lodge. Ma sonic rites were conducted at the graveside. Captain Goodwin, who retired from the U. S. Coast Guard in 1931 after thirty years' service, was for many years in charge of the Fort Macon station. Since his retire ment, he had been very active in the activities of the Methodist Church, having served as chair man of the board of trustees, mem ber of the board of stewards, and treasurer of the First Methodist Church schook ' He leaves, in addition to lis wi dow, Lena Willis Goodwin, a daughter, Mrs. Guy Bennett, of Durham, and three sons, LL Cmdr. Miss Eloise Tilley Complimented al Party Miss Eloise TUley, bride elect, was honored on Wednesday night at a bridge party at the home of Miss Irene Spence. Hostesses were Miss Spence and Miss Dora Mae Staton. Upon her arrival, Miss Tilley was presented a miniature nosegay of white bride's roses. Mrs. L. A. Tilley, mother of the honoree, was presented a corsage of red asters, and Miss Rachel Brock, also a bride elect, was honored witn a miniature bridal nosegay. The hostesses served cokes early in the evening. On each bottle was a favor, a beautiful rose. At the end of the second progression, lime ice, decorated bridal cakes, and nuts were served. Prizes were won by Miss Mabel Laine, who was high scorer, Miss Rachel Brock, who was low scoter, and Miss Viola Styron, who was high scorer at rummy. Mi.;s Laine's prize was a candy dish, Miss Brock's ,a nut dish, and Miss Styron's prize was note stationery. The hostesses presented to Miss Tilley a fruit juice beverage et of hand blown glass. Miss Brock received a set of four salad lates. Sixteen guests were present. Miss Davis Engaged Mr. and Mrs. Julian M. Davis, of Straits, announce the engagement of their daughter, Audrey Beryl, to Mr. William Hugh Sandtrson. of the Morehead City Technical Insti tute and Rocky Point, N. C. The wedding will take place on August 27. Leslie M. Jackson recently com pleted a three-week visit with his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Jackson. He is now visit ing his sister, Mrs. F. L. Fussell at her summer home. P. Freeman. Hostesses were Mrs. W. P. Free man and Miss Eloise Freeman. Party decorations were pink and blue. Cut flowers and toy animals and dolls were placed in the living room and dining room. Guests placed their shower uifts in a bas sinette, which was guarded by a large stork. On the lace-covered dining room table was a punch bowl, encircled with pink flowers and ivy. The hostesses served punch, mints, nuts, and individual cakes decora ted in pink and blue. There were eleven tables of bridge. High scorer for the eve ning was Mrs. Kathleen Jenkins, who won a sterling and crystal coast tray. Mrs. Frances Collins won imported handkerchiefs for second high score, and Mrs. Modine Exum was consoled with note pa per. The honoree received many love ly and useful gifts from the guests. Mrs. lamontine Hostess . To Tuesday Bridge Club Mrs. A. H. Lamontine entertain ed the Tuesday night bridge club at her home on Arendcll Street. Guests for the evening were Mrs. Quincy Stimson and Mrs. Kenneth Wagner. Mrs. Stimson was award ed a prize of cologne for guest high score. Club high scorer was Mrs. M. B. Morey, who received a prize of cologne, and second high was Mrs. Robert Freeman, who received bubble bath. The hostess served cokes, crack ers, and candy. The club will meet next week with Mrs. Robert Freeman. Recent Bride Showered At Bingo Party Monday Mrs. Coolidge Merrill, recent bride, was complimented Monday night at a shower and bingo party at the home of Mrs. George Phil lips on Bridges street. Hostesses were Mrs. Philhps and Misses Patricia Mallison and Viola Styron. Bridal colors were used as the theme for the refreshments, which were eake squares, blocks ef iee crown decorated with wedding bells, mints, salted peanuts, and ginger ale. In the center of the gift table, which was covered with a lace doth, was a lovely miniature bride doll. The honoree was presented a miniature nosegay of white bride's roses, and a silver sandwich plate by her hostesses. She received many lovely and useful gifts from her friends. Moran and members of their wedding party at an after-rehearsnl partv Thurs day night at the Webb Memorial Civic Center. : Upon her arrival Miss Fulcher was presented a lovely corsage of white gladioli and a pair of silver candlesticks by the hostesses. The refreshment table was cov ered with a"4ace cloth. In the cen ter ef the table was a miniature wedding cake, topped by the tradi tional bride and groom. A lovely arrangement of white gladioli and fern surrounded the cake, and on either side were triple crystal can delabra holding white tapers. After the bridal couple had cut the first slice. Miss Ballou served cake to the guests. The lime ice. salted nuts, and mints were served by Mrs. McLean. Mrs. Claude Ricks, pianist, and Mrs. Josiah Bailey, Jr. and Mr. Kenneth Bradley, soloists, Dresem ed a lovely program of appropriate music. Approximately thirty puests, in cluding the members of the wed ding party, out of town guests, and close friends of the couple, were present. Miss Margaret Rose Entertains Dance Class Miss Margaret Rose entertained her dance class at Morehead City with a treasure hunt Thursday af ternoon at the County Recreation Center. The novelties which had previously been hidden out doors were soon recovered by the trea sure seekers. Orange punch and eeokies were served. Frieda Lewis found the most treasure, and Gail Price and Katbie Chalk won a prize in the amateur show, with Betsy Brooks, Sylvia Perry, and Ann Spivey giv ing plenty I competition with songs and an acrobatic stunt. Ann Owens, Jane Safrit and Bit sy won prizes in the musical chairs game, and Miss Rose remembered Ann Garner, Carolyn Laine, and Jean Smoyer with ballet pins for helping her with class chores. Other pupils attending included Paula Jones, Judith Willis, Pat Herring, Rose ' Daniels, Wayne Whitehurst, Novella Reid, Connie Jorgenson. Elizabeth Hill, Suzanne Beck, Elizabeth Edwards, Virginia Morris, Emily Chalk, Frances Whtt ly, Sally Ann Morris and Betty Eure. Miss Rose is leaving for Wash ington, D. C, and New York City to attend the Dance Masters Con vention. She is planning to resume her local classes September 1. Many thousands of tons of jndi are estimated to be deposited in Wyoming, California and Alaska.
