Mrs. Eddie Bell is improving at the Cumberland hospital, Brook lyn, N. Y. where she is receiving treatment. King Webster returned to Port Monmouth, N. J., Wednesday after being called home because of the death of his son. Mrs. Eula Herring of Morehead City has returned home from New York, where she visited friends. THIRTY FIVE YEARS AGO The county commissioners were in session Monday and went over the tax books for the purpose of correcting errors. There was a large attendance from Beaufort at the military ball given at the Atlantic hotel Satur day night by the Second Infantry, North Carolina National Guards. A concert recently given under the direction of Miss Lucy Davis was to be repeated at the Sea Breeze theatre. ' TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO A tug, attempting to cross the bar in the teeth of a strong south west wind sank, and one man was drowned. The Norfolk and Southern Rail road was distributing "Stop" signs at all railroad crossings to remind motorists of the state law. Mr. and Mrs. Louis Potter were to give a concert at the graded school auditorium the following week. The concert was being given under the auspices of tha Ladies Aid of the Methodist church. TEN YEARS AGO Captain Wilbur Nelson, opera tor of the Ocracoke-Atlantic mail boat, applied to the Utilities Com mission for a franchise. It was the first application for a permit to operate an interstate boat line in North Carolina coastal waters in many years. George Huntley, Jr., was elected president of the Young Democratic club of Carteret county. Grace Clair Taylor of Morehead City was to reign as queen of the Coastal Festival. FIVE YEARS AGO The lead editorial commented on the amount of rainfall the county had had recently. Fclton's was advertising a shoe sale, and no shoe coupon was necessary. Cars Collide At Intersection Two hundred dolars damage was caused yesterday afternoon at 12: 45 p.m. when two cars collided at the intersection on Evans and 10th street in Morehead City. Eugene Clifford Willis, of Aren tell street, was driving a two door Ford east along Evans street when there was a collision with a Ford coupe being driven south cn loth street by Miss Lottie B. Van. The1 coupe Miss Van was driving is owned by B. O. Sutton, of Wilson. The force of the collision caused 'Mr. Willis' car to the curb, smash ed two doors on the left side of the automobile and bent the light rear wheel. The car driven by Miss Van had its front bumper bent. COUBT (Continued From Page One) mercy of the court. MacDonald Carraway, charged with the theft of an auto and driv ing drunk, was sentenced to one year in jail to be assigned to work the roads, with commitment not to issue if he mains sober and on good behavior for five years. He was also ordered to pay a fine of $150 and costs. Alvah Hamilton, attorney f6r Carraway, entered a plea of "guil ty" for Carraway to temporary lar ceny rather than theft of an auto, pointing out that Carraway was drunk and did not wanj permancrt use of the car. Under North Caro lina law, theft is a felony while temporary larceny is a misdemea nor. The case against Guilford D. Tunnell, who was also said to be inotxicated t the time, testified an automobile, was dismissed when Tunnell, who was also said to in toxicated at the time, testified that he was under the impression he was being taken home. Wakes Up in Jail Tunnell said he then blacked out and did not recover consciousness until he woke up in jail the next morning. Tunnell further testified that he has already paid a fine i Morehead City police court for public drunkenness. When the banning season is at its height, the plant will work on two shifts, Mr. Anquillare says, which will mean 24 hours a day for about a month. Mr. Anquillare, formerly of New Haven, Conn., has bought a home in Beaufort and is living here with his family.
