YARN" official number 253458, owned by Ottis Purifoy of which Beaufort, N. C. is the home fwrt. to be changed to "DOL PHIN." OLIVE LONGEST, 4t A31 S3-7-10 Deputy Collector RESOLUTION ; -Cantata Henry Davis Goodwin, at the age of seventy-six, died at th MnreheHd CJty Hospital about 7:30 Saturday evening, July 24, 1948. Coming to live in Morehead City in 1911 he shortly thereafter unit ed; with The First Methodist Church, with which he continued bis membership uninterruptedly until the time of his death. His Interest in the church was made manifest from the very beginning of his association, and while hit official duties in' the capacity of "Keeper of the Station" (he was boatswain in the U. S. Coast Guard Service) kept him away from home most of the time, he never lost contact with or interest in his church. After hii retirement from the Coast Guard in 1931 he was ' made a member of the Board of I Stewards, on which board he con tinued to serve until removed by death. Captain Henry (he was affec tionately so k'nown to all of his friends) served for many years as Sunday School Treasurer, also as treasurer and dispenser of the so called Poor Fund of the church, was a member of the Board of Trustees for a long time, and head ed several important church com mittees. He was the third to re ceive the Sunday School award for outstanding and distinguished ser vice in the school after the prac tice was adopted by the school nine years ago on the occasion of the founding of Chas. S. Wallace Day. There was no task given him in the interest of his church and Sunday School that he did not per form with efficiency and cheerful ness, so much so that "Captain Henry will take care of that" be came almost a byword in the of ficial family. While he loved and was loyal to his church and all of its departments, he liked to feel, over and above all things else, that he was a lover of the Lord and that in promoting the interest of the church he was advancing the cause of God's Kingdom on earth. Moreover, Captain Henry was a public-spirited citizen, always in terested in the community welfare, and ever ready to do his part in every worthwhile undertaking. Whether as a private citizen or acting in some official capacity (and he served in several for both city and county) he is known al ways to have placed duty above every other consideration. And now, therefore, be it Resolved: that the Board of Stewards of The First Methodist Church of Morehead City record with profounrfPst sorrow the death of the late Henry Davis Goodwin; that it is the sense of the board that in his passing, both this board and the church have lost one of their most "valuable and faithful members, whose faith and works ever will be a comfort and inspira tion to those who were privileged to know and labor with him; that the sympathies of the church as a whole, expressed through this of ficial body, be extended the widow and children of our deceased Brother; and be it further Resolved: that these resolutions be made of permanent record in the Minutes of the Board, that a copy be furnished the family of deceased, and Jthajt jcopies be ,f.urr nisned the local paper and North Carolina Christiaif Advocate for publication. Unanimously adopted at this regular meeting of the board on this the 2nd day of August, 1948, at the board's regular meeting place. Geo. R. Wallace, Chmn. Attest: C. N. Bennett, Sect'y. FOR.... He was an outstanding citizen of the commun ity, always giving his influence to the side of moral worth and recn tude, and delighting in the growth and development of every right eous cause. Wherefore be it Resolved: That it is the sense of the Board of Stewards of The First Methodist Church of More head City that in the passing of Brother Swindell the board has lost a valued member and the Church one of its most loyal sons; that the memory of his life among us will be an insipration for more consecrated service. And be it further: Resolved: That the sympathies of this board be extended the wid ow and children of our departed brother, and that a copy of these resolutions be furnished them for their information.
