John C. Rosling, driving with improper equipment, costs; H. Mc Donald Johnson, allowing an un licensed person to operate a motor vehicle, costs; Mrs. Jeane John son, no driver's license, costs; Ray mond C. Portillo, speeding, $10 and costs. "The care of the young and adult terrapin, the actual work of carrying on the experiments, and the keeping of the original records were the responsibility of Captain Hatsel until his retirement bn his 69th birthday in February, 1947, after 45 years of service devoted to the building of Terrapin Town' and its tenants." "Cap'n" Hatsel began as a labor er in 1902 and rose to foreman with the fish culturist rating. His efficiency ratings were good to ex cellent during his half-century of service. The award ceremony at the Hat sel home was witnessed by: Mrs. Charlie Hatsel, the former Miss Marie Clawson of Beaufort; by their sons, Francis, Carl, and Hen ry Hatsel, and their wives; and by granddaughter Elaine Alice Hatsel, age 2 12 months, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Hatsel. Also present were the members of "Cap'n" Charlie's crew: J. Vance Faulford, superintendent; Alonzo Thomas, chief clerk; and Charlie Hawkins, -custodian. In presenting the awards, Dr. Prytherch emphasized the import ance that "Cap'n" Hatsel's ser vices have been to fishery bioloui cai research in this country. He is remembered and appreciated by scientific men "all over the coun try," Dr. Prytherch stated. ' "Cap'n" Hatsel 'expressed his ap preciation to Dr. Prytherch for the honors and requested that his ap preciation be expressed to the Federal Government. Coast Guard, storage depot, slate highway patrolmen reported. Price kt Right, Leaf Growers Say Several complaints about tobac co selling prices have been receiv ed from Carteret farmers, B. J. May, production marketing admi nistrator, revealed today. The average support price of 43.9 per pound is 3.9 cents better than last year's figure, but local growers don't seem to be satisfied. "The average farmer doesn't think tobacco is bringing as much as it should relative to cost of pro duction and other prices," May stated. Four hundred farmers in this county have sold their tobacco on the eastern market. No figures are available as yet on the number of pounds sold. Grown in the county this year were 1.470 acres. NEGRO NEWS Mr. and Mrs. Reginald Hawkins returned to Washington, D. C, Monday after a visit with Mr. Hawkins' father and sister. Mr. Charlie Hawkins and Mrs. Hazel Adams. Their oldest child, Paulet ta, is remaining on with her grand father and aunt for a visit. Mrs. Gertrude Reals and Mrs. Gladys Simmons returned to Phila delphia, Pa., Wednesday after be ing called here by the death of their sister, Mrs. Mary Lucy John son. Mary Lucy Johnson Funeral services for Mrs. M uy Lucy Johnson, 46, who died in Phi ladelphia on Thursday, Aug. 26, after a short illness were held from Queen St. Baptist church on Wednesday, Sept. 3, with inter ment in Bay View cemetery. Thomas Ennett, county health officer, said yesterday that parents should keep children on home premises and cooperate with the health department in polio control. He expressed the hope that no legal ban would be necessary on movies, Sunday schools, children's parties, and other gatherings. The present restrictions apply to all children under 16. Dr. Ennett said also, "There have been so many inquiries and so many rumors about the opening of school" that he felt called upon to make a statement on that score. He continued, "The Oct. 1 date set by the Board of Health in a meeting Aug. 24, subject to change, still stands. The Board of Health in a future meeting will determ ine the exact date and the public will be informed immediately. "In the meantime," he added, "the public should wait patiently, realizing that the safety of chil dren is of paramount importance."
