Broach, pastor of St. John's Baptist church at his home on Sherwood ave., Charlotte, Miss Rosalie Houston Simpson of Jacksonville, Fla., be came the bride of Rex Hunter Wheatley of Charlotte. The bride and groom were at tended by Mr. and Mrs. Charles II. Wheatley and Mr. and Mrs. Ben F. Turner. The bride wore a Jablow origin al suit of cocoa brown with a smoke haze Milgrim hat. She wore brown lizard shoes with matching bag, a beige blouse and gloves and a brown orchid corsage. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Guy Houston, of Jacksonville, Fla., and daughter-in-law of Mr. and Mrs. Aubrey L. Simpson of Charlotte, parents of 'he late Aubrey Lee Simpson, Jr. She received her education in the Jacksonville schools. Mr. Wheatley, formerly of Beau fort, is the son of Mr. and Mis. Raymond B. Wheatley of Wash ington, and he was graduated from N. C. State College with a degree in construction engineering. He is a member of the Jaycees, Char lotte Engineers Club, Myers Park Country Club and Reserve Offi cers Association. He served in the U. S. Army for four years and was overseas for two and a hall" years. When released from serv ice he held the rank of lieutenant colonel. Following the wedding cere mony, Mr. and Mrs. Wheatley left for a trip to Washington. D. C. and New York. Upon their return, they will make their home in the Alson Court Apartments in Charlotte. "Pa's" active life included serv ice in political office. At one time he was mayor of Beaufort and was treasurer of Beaufort and Carteret county for years. In 1901 he was elected to the state legisla ture for one term. The church, St. Paul's Episcopal, where he was a lifelong member, claimed much of "Pa's" energies. He was superintendent of the Sun day school for 35 years. When ever the church was without a min ister, he acted as lay reader, re fusing to let the doors be closed. He was a vestryman for more than :() .wars and honorary senior war den for life. Young Nelson Whitford Taylor married Mary Catherine Buck man, now affectionately known as "Ma" on February 24, 1881. Both "Pa" and "Ma" were born In Beau fort, and their forebears lived here for generations. "Pa" is survived by his widow, four sons, one daughter, 12 grand children, 17 great grandchildren "lid one great great grandson. The latter is Richard Taylor Downes, Jr., 1 12, of Providence, R. I. Sons are Cecil B. Taylor, Boston, Mass.; Bayard Taylor, Beaufort; i N. W. Taylor, Jr., Santa Monica, Cal.; and Ueorge h. Taylor, New York City. Mrs. Nannie Hinnant, of Beaufort, is his living daughter, and another daughter, Mrs. Eliza beth O'Bryan. is deceased. "Ma" will be 88 in November. "Pa" was born on Front street overlooking the water, on Sept. 7. 1856, the son of George W. Tay lor and Sidney Ann Taylor. His mother was a Bragg and a cousin cf Gen. Braxton Bragg and Gov. Thomas Bragg, of North Carolina. "Pa" was ali o related" to Zaeharv Taylor, president of the United States. He attended the Newport acad emy and the Beaufort school, and - was chairman of the town school board for years, While a young k man, he was a member of the Beaufort home guard.
